I decided to spectate at Hyperfest and attend some family engagements last weekend instead of doing my first ProSolo, so.... did any MARBs trophy?

I'm assuming A-Stock and STU had a big field with close times?

The Pro was great fun again. I was really looking forward to a rematch with Jonathan Roberts (who beat me by .4 last year and went on to win the '06 Pro finale). After Saturday morning it looked like it would be close. I had quickest raw times on each course, but had red lights or cones on every run so was sitting near the back of the pack. In the afternoon, I cleaned it up but left a lot of time on the right course - I was almost a second back from my morning raw times. My left course time was OK, but I knew more was out there. I was 0.311 behind Roberts and Bren was only 0.015 behind me. It was close.

Sunday morning, Roberts lit off on the left course, dropping 0.4 from his Saturday times. I didn't go faster on the right course. When we switched courses, I did improve my left course time, but not by much. He proceeded to drop down to a 32.7 something on the right, which was another big improvement. I came back with a 32.6 on the right. In the end, Roberts dropped more time on the right, beating me by about .050 - but it was my left course times that let me down. I was 0.4 off the pace overall.

I am reasonably happy that I made it that close - but at the same time it was purely his driving that won the event. It was not a very STi-friendly course but he drove extremely well for the win. It was a very good Boxster course (I was banging the limiter - 70MPH - on each course's back straight), and I didn't take advantage. Just like last year, he was gaining a 0.2 second advantage at the launch (1.7x 60' times to my 1.9x 60' times). UNlike last year, he was cutting good lights. We were both consistently in the .520-.580 range.

Clyde and I are still learning this very tricky-to-drive car, and I am sure we will find more speed in it.

Still, that's 600 bucks from Kumho this month, so I guess I should be happy. :D

Here's my story:

During my first set of runs, my battery came loose, and was shorting out on course. The car would die and come back to life intermittantly.

On my second set of runs (at about 7:00pm) I could not put anything decent down. Neither could Mike, we were like 8th and 9th place or something.

On Sunday, it was my only chance to put something down. I made sure I drove conservatively and clean, and ended up with 5th place.

Corey Ridgick ran away with the class, then it was a 400hp STi came in 2nd. Mike Neary got 3rd (in an EVO!), with David McDougal only a couple hundredths behind, and then me, I was less than a half second behind Mike.

I can't say Im dissapointed. 5th place of 12 isn't anything to brag about, but being the top M3 in STU, there is a slight disadvantage in the launches which doesn't come into play on a regular course. But I left some time out there.

Anyway, it was fun in the end (stressful and exhausting on Saturday).

To dream....another year or two away until I get out there, unless there ends up a "Dixie ProSolo" next year. Congrats to all of the speedy MAR guys.

Wow, sounds like fun. I hope to get to that level some day...when I get a car that doesn't spray coolant all over the place.

Dayum... it seems bren really has the 'vette figured out and done so quite quickly. JV, you'll beat the rally cars at Nat's (non-Pro), but I'd be worried about bren. Also, do you all think the Solstice/Sky turbos going to be an issue in A-Stock?

I can't believe there weren't more cars in SM and SM2 :dunno

Scott, I think you'll be fine without a draggin start... but those STEVOs get to have A LOT more power. Nat's this year? I thought I saw Mike N. driving Danny's? (met him at Cumberland) Evo at the last WDCR event, but did he sell or abandon the M3?

Solstice / Sky will be an issue on shorter courses, but they only do about 54 in second gear which is a major liability on longer courses. Their third gear is very tall, so upshifting doesn't help a lot.

W/O the drag start, Mike N. and David M. and I would all be dead even. Should make for some good battles for 1st in WDCR at Fed Ex.

I'd like to go to Nats this year. I think Mike is done with his M3, he wants to develop Danny's EVO. He may sell it, so everyone be on the look out!?! Maybe he'll chime in, Im sure he's trollin'. :D

I don't know about having the vette quite figured out...it would be faster if I'd stop driving it like a BMW. Of course 2.1+ 60ft times and a 61mph second gear didn't help either.
