I stopped at Princeton BMW/MINI yesterday to take a closer look at the Cooper S. I've only seen a few Mini's on the road, but really think they're slick little pocket rockets. They had a British Racing Green one in the showroom. It had aftermarket 17" rims on it. It had a Level 1 option package which had a sunroof, CC, and a few other things I don't remember. The sticker was 24k and the rims brought it up to 26k.
The sales person told me $2500 total out of pocket and the price range would be between $275 to $325 p/month, including tax, on a 36 month lease. There was no mark-up on the window sticker other then the rims. The lady who was helping me out was really nice and appeared to be a straight shooter. Initially I was there to just look, but when she threw that $275 number at me, my mind started spinning. Seems awfully cheap to me. Figured if I sat down and started wheeling and dealing with her, could have gotten myself a good deal. Having a friend there pushing me to do it wasn't a good thing since I get impulsive when I think I'm getting a good deal!
My question is:
What are people paying for these cars on a lease? Weather you have a regular Mini or a Cooper S doesn't matter. I walked out because I knew if I stayed there long enough I would have walked out with a new toy. If I found out later that I was getting crushed, I wouldn' t have been a happy camper.
TIA

This is OT but whatever.... where in Jersey do you live? I'm in Princeton. Which lady was helping you? The lady that helped me out when I was there was Debbie Franks.. she was pretty helpful.
I'm not leasing mine though... so I can't help you out with that. :dunno

I'm in Old Bridge. The lady who was helping me out was Debbie, I do believe. She gave me her card but am to lazy to dig it up right now. Her and her husband were founders of some Mini club here in Jersey. When we started talking autoxing, she knew her stuff. She's a true enthusiast.
Did she give you a good deal on your car? What model do you have? What was the sticker price and what did you end up paying? Over or under sticker?

Wow, she founded a MINI club? I'll have to go talk to her about that.
I got my Cooper for a little under $20k (I can't remember exactly what) with the sports package, sports suspension plus, xenon headlights, and OBC which on the MINI website comes out to $19,825. What I payed was damn close to that so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I paid MSRP.

If those are the prices, $275-$325 a mos, it's more do-able than I thought as a 3rd car.... Of course I'd have to do the S, the pulley swap, slap drag radials on the front of it, and see if I can hit 14's... :evil2

Damnit... why don't you just get a Cooper like me and pretend that its fast. If you want to give the car a spin sometime you can come on up to Princeton... the ride is exactly the same as the S so you'll just have to imagine 50 more hp. My only condition is that you give me a ride in your car..... I have to get a ride in your car before I leave NJ :D

:) When are you leaving NJ?

Around the middle of June sometime... after I graduate I'm heading back home to CA for the summer, then off to college, which won't be in the northeast (goodbye winter :buttrock)

I think we can work that in... :)
Back on topic-- are those lease quotes for real?

Yeah, as far as I know. When I walked into the showroom, I was just there to check one out. Never saw one up close. The lady started asking if we needed help. I just asked her for prices off the top of her head. Thought she was going to insult me and say something ridiculous like 400-500 p/ month. She went up and looked at the sticker and said, "this one would be between 275 to 325 p/ month. 2500 total out of pocket." I asked if that included tax, she said yes. The sales person didn't seem to be the typical hustler type.
Figured I could upgrade my hoopty Saturn to a Mini. SS, when I saw your post, I started to laugh. First thing I thought at the dealer was: Pulley sway and I'll be ready to go!!! Pretty decent in a straight line and have a lot of fun at the autox.
My theory is they must really hold there value and have a strong residual. The monthly payments are really reasonable. Does anyone think a Cooper S could be done for $1500 out of pocket and $250 p/ month?

Cooper S for those prices, I doubt it. It's likely closer to what she quoted, and the high resale/residual explains the good lease rates.

Any confirmation of lease rates for the MCS?

I testdrove both of these beasts. They are a blast from all points of view. Plus not very expensive either. The dealer I checked out was trying to sell me a base Cooper for MSRP.
A base Cooper with quite a few options on the Mini site can be had for as low as 210 (no tax) per month plus 2500 down.

Thanks for mentioning the website. I played with it and was able to come up with $275 for 36 months w/ $2500 out of pocket the way I would want the car.
On a side note, I ran into an acquaintance yesterday that owned a Charcoal Grey w/ White Stripes Cooper S. It had a funky black and blue leather interior. I thought it was a sweet combo. He was kind enough to let me take it for a spin.
First off, it reminded me of the M3 in so many ways. Solidly built, precision handling ride. The power was quite impressive for what it is. His ride was stock except for a K&N drop-in filter. I've read that below 3k, the car is weak. I couldn't disagree more. The motor pulled pretty linear from idle all the way to redline. Could the K&N make that big of a difference? It handled pretty flat and felt really well balanced. Brakes were really powerful, too. Felt like a true BMW to me. Only thing lacking IMO was the shifter. But for 23g's, it's definitely a performance bargain.
Only reason I'm holding tight currently is the economy and this war. Once we take out Mr. Husein and his regime and things turn back to normal business wise, I'm goint to pick one up for sure.
