Well i am going to my first car show with couple DTM/BF members from NY on March 29 (http://www.importxpression.com/poster.jpg). What do i need to give my car a show car shine....should i "A" buy the products myself and detail the car or "B" get a detailing shop to do it. Also I need detail steps on the process of cleaning...if i am to do it myself and what products to buy. Any help advice is appreciated
thanks,
-adam

For black cars, I highly recommend using Zaino Bro's product line. They do amazing on black paint. It's a long process, but it's well worth it.

Check www.zainobros.com

Step by step instructions are available at their site. Good luck!

You should talk to Willy (Stylin) about getting your car ready for shows... as he goes to a lot of them. You should basically clean everything you can think of on the car... EVERYTHING. If your paint is already in good shape I'd recommend 3m IHG and then P21S wax. The IHG will fill in any swirls you have, and enrich the shine of the paint, then the P21S wax has a great gloss to it and is the easiest to apply and remove of any wax I've ever used.

This is just your paint... if you're showing you've also got to detail your interior, engine compartment, wheels, wheel wells, polish your exhaust tips, etc etc etc. If you took it to a detailing shop it would probably cost you many hundred dollars to do everything, but it would probably be done very well. It just depends on what you want to do :dunno

Thanks man i was looking for a good place like that but its in Staten Island by the time i drive my car to the show it will just get dirty again...I rather pay someone to do it will be much less of an hassle.

moonluv810,
Zaino Bro's products are very good i have always heard..but the fact that they want you to mail in your order kinda turns me down to the whole deal. Whats up with that..:dunno

Kyle,
I will ask Willy i am sure he can point me into the right direction.

I am always a firm believer that if you can do it yourself, you should. Spending $3-500 on a full detail can instead buy you a Porter-Cable polisher and a hell of a lot of detailing tools and product. Not to mention, this will come out of any prize money you win at the show, IF you win.

However if you are busy with your job, etc...your time may be worth more than the $500 you spend having someone else do it. It's all up to you, but I enjoy doing it myself. Part of the hobby of being a car enthusiast is cleaning your car.

BTW, I know it probably doesn't harm the paint, but BMW TECHNICALLY does not recommend the use of polymer based care products on their paint, only carnauba. There is a thread on Autopia currrenty if you want to check it out.

IslandS52,
I would do it myself too but its too cold and i don't have a garage. In the summer it do it all the time no problem. I got to move to Hawaii like you :)

I have arranged a appointment with Brian...he seems to be a great guy, who takes what he does very seriously. He will personally come down to my house the night before the show and detail my car :)

Zaino has my vote! I had 14 coats on my Black S2000, and my paint was in far better condition/shine than the black 2002 S2000 that was sitting in the showroom of my local dealership!

If you want to get all of your products online, you can go through a distributer that takes paypal payments. If you want to do this, pm me, and I will give you the info necessary to contact my distributor.
