You know its possible to change the coding plug to have an exact mileage match from your old one to the new one right?

I have a M3 cluster that has about 90K. What's it worth to you.

Why do you need a new cluster? And I'm pretty sure you will need an OBD-2 cluster. I don't think you can use one out of a 325

All the cluster does is show the RPM's, the ECU controls the rev limit. If you install any cluster that hasn't been coded for your car, the mileage will be displayed, but the anti tamper dot next to the mileage will be lit.

I dont want that tamper light to be on, so I decided to go with a (93 325) gauge for my (96 328). Will that work ok?

What tool is used to recode the gauge cluster? Is this something that must be done by the dealer, or is there a tool that can do it?

No. You can't use an OBD1 cluster. This has been mentioned more than once in this thread. Why do you need a new cluster anyway?

You need an ODBII cluser.

Because the wiring harness connectors are different. And to transfer the mileage, only the ODBII clusters have the coding plug.
Trust me, and ODBI cluster will not work.

I dont want the coding plug because the other guy said the anti tamper light would be on.

No the tamper light will come on if you try and switch the coding chip yourself. Get an OBDII clutser and have the dealer transfer the milage for you. The OBDI absolutly will not work in your car. If you didn't wanna transfer miles than the new/used cluster you install will display the miles from the car it came out of.
