Alright here's the deal.... I just got my car inspected and a need a few things done to it. Some of it I can do myself and some of the other stuff I just don't trust myself with yet. These include putting new struts on the front as well as ball joints all around. The local inspection place told me my left front strut was leaking. The other problem is putting a new muffler on. The muffler I have is corroded but has no holes(don't really know the logistics of what Maryland determines safe / not safe). I might even be able to do this myself. I would just like the option of having someone do it for me without a huge inflated price tag. Let me know who you guys think is reliable and fair. Btw if anyone wants to help me and teach me some stuff I am MORE than happy to go in that direction. Of course it'll reap some benefits for you no doubt. Thanks.

EDIT: The mechanic i got to do my inspection also said something about a neutral safety switch(wtf is this I didn't know a manual transmission had one?)

Thanks man. Will do for sure. Do you know roughly how much their hourly labor rate is? My mom uses Autowerks in Bel Air and swears by them but imo... they are really expensive.

funny story about autowerkes, my mom took her car there recently and told her she needed a clutch or her car was done! and i drove and and even took it to gt and my buddy looked it over and nothing was wrong! so afetr that i wont return. They are very reasonable price wise and have tons of expierence

For cheaper rates and good service, give Rob a call at Wilhelm Automotive in Havre de Grace, 410.939.2707. Tell him Alex sent you.

The neutral safety switch is probably the clutch switch that prevents newer cars from turning on unless the clutch is depressed. Your car never had one if it's a '93.

And MD does not determine how things are safe, not safe. It's up to the inspection shop and their desire to force you to spend money (hopefully there). That's why people will drive pretty fucking far for the (very rare) MD inspection shop that's honest.

if you need an HONEST inspection shop, use clark auto repair, on harford rd. i'ts in baltimore city.

my friend Nick owns the place, and although he is, self admittedly, retarded when it comes to BMWs, he is 100% honest about the inspections, and sometimes is willing to let some minor stuff go.

you can tell him seth sent you.

as for GT performance in edgewood, i'm excited to go check them out. i used to live up there. kind of a random place to have a racecar shop!

another good german performance shop, a little further up the road, in aberdeen area, is NGP. (new german performance)
the owner has had a few E30 M3s, and knows his way around bimmers pretty well.

Btw this is what my muffler looks like. Note that there are NO leaks just corrosion around it.
Is the mechanic I got my car inspected by just trying to take my money for something that doesn't need replacing but just looks like it needs to be replaced? If thats the case I'll get my car re-inspected at Clark's where Seth recommended.
