hey jdb, couple of questions for you.....how did you go about cleaning up the engine bay on your car w/o damaging anything...and where did you get that strut tower brace?

jbd5015
02-07-2007, 08:44 AM
haha, i never cleaned it yet! Thats how i got it, and to my understanding, it was rarely cleaned. But what i plan to do is take the the air box off, up to the manifold, to open up some room. And then get a box of shop rags and some brakleen, simple green, and engine degreaser. It has to be done by hand to not screw anything i think, which i think is going to take at least 5 hours haha. thanks for the compliment though. As for the strut bar, it was a freebie that was hidden under the carpet in the back of the car when i got home. It is a racing dynamics bar. You can still buy them for about $200 shipped i think.

I've got two, an 80 635 euro, and a 80 633. Both were modified by a previous owners, one much more so than the other:eek: The euro is an auto, the 633 is a 4 spd, both cars have their personalities, wouldn't trade them for the world. The euro even has etched in the front and back windshields "Hot Wheels Creation", interesting:rolleyes

saw one earlier today had just been washed

i was surprised with the size, i thougth from what i heard that it was goin to be a massive car but it wasnt.

They are bigger than they look though. Youd be surprised how much interior space there is. The back seats have more room than the new 6ers, and the trunks are bigger than most buick trunks. how they did it...dont know, dont care, one of the best cars ever, period...end of story.

Unless im totally mistaken, i think his car had the Breyton wheels. For some reason that is sticking in my head as a selling point from when he had the car on the market, but i could be totally wrong. I know Breyton and Rondell both made wheels similar to the type 32's and alpinas (greater than or equal to 15 spokes or something).

stoner
02-15-2007, 05:49 PM
The peak is Mount Baker, a little taller than 8,000 feet. Mount Rainier is the famous mountain around here and the local Indian tribes have a legend that Mount Baker is the jealous wife of Mount Rainier, or is it the other way around. Anyway, they used to live together but one got jealous and moved away. You know how that happens, split the sheets.

Current 6er. 77 630csi. Needs some assembly, but it's a 3 owner, San Diego car with less than 100k miles on it. ZERO rust, perfectly straight, Sierrabeige, but not drivetrain right now. I've got a 91 M30B35 for it, and a line of a 265 from an 85 535i for it. It will start getting love this summer.

Yeah well it is all in the hopes of better performance which it does sure perform much better, I also was not about to pay 750+ for a B&B performance catback, and also I have a Hi-flow 50 state legal Magnaflow catalytic Converter so the car can be registered anywhere. Sure eats paying a ttal of over $1200 for the exhaust mods I have done currently elsewhere when I only have total $450 in it. :)

The wing is not even permanently attached right now. it was for a test fitting to see what it looked like, but does create a load of downforce which is great for me and my spirited driving. :) I drive this car like it is meant to be driven, not loafed around, but then again i am a crazy Streetfighter biker too.

Basically in a nutshell why i did the things I did guys is the car was going to be turbocharged putting out over 300+RWHP. I go for Performance, aka Handling, Speed, Drifting capabilities, Power and that is it, Looks come way down the line. I have thousands in the suspension NO JOKE! and see no prupose of spending thousands on another restrictive exhaust.

Basically it comes down to I am a Streetfighter biker who wants his aerodynamics, aka downforce thus the wing, and the total package. Others can have ther dubs aka big rims, huge stereos and rediculous body kits, or stock looks and rear wings aka mtech, zender, etc that do not do too much for downforce... me I will take the extra traction the downforce from the wing will give me if I do install it. :)

Not trying to defend myself, or get your approval, just explaining why i do what i do.

G'day Bill,

Sorry mate, just read your post now.

When I was a kid, when the Dukes was on TV, I always figured the car was orange. When making those pics I read varying reports suggesting the colour was either hemi-orange, big bad orange, or corvette flame red. The 'redness' or 'orangeness' of the colour on the real car (cars) varies in different photos of the car depending on the sunlight and shadows.

And the Stars & Bars are there mate, behind the 'Gen Lee' on the roof, you just can't really see it coz its stretched flat. Its shows up a little better in the big version!

im definitely game for having a meet, perhaps more towards spring/summer? My car isnt in the best of shape right now (i.e. not running, but just needs a weekend worth of work to be good to go). Im at school right now in penn state, perhaps ill start a thread between the 6er and E12/E28 thread to get a list of people who will go. Im thinking the meet will be predominantly 5ers cause there arent many 6ers (or owners who are on the forums) in the pa/nj/ny region.

After that...well...I'll throw on the 18x8.5/18x9.5 BBS RSes I have sitting in the garage, and she'll be finished...at long last. Here are the pics...

i think ive decided not to bring my car out for sharkfest until she gets a nice once over with my bodyshop guys...she has a list of things on the outside that need to get done and i dont know when im going to have the money... :(
about 15 dents
1 small rust spot on rear fender that i ground out and sealed bout the size of half a stick of gum
new pin stripes...
paint around where the liscense plate goes is a bit faded..
kidney grill has a dent
and all 4 baffles on the bumpers are warped...hows that for a shit list...

anyone have an idea of how much that might cost?

i almost want to cry everytime i think about it

oh well haha...

I can relate to the time is money and also costs a lot to do things to these cars. I hnestly believe I am over $5000+ and still not done the paint work! I debate everyday with just selling mine and really need to do just that, i am sick of being Hundred Dollared and Thousand Dollared... No such thing as nickel and dimed with these cars.

Don't let looks dissuade you from joining in. Nobody will give a hoot, really. After the first SESF, I gave up trying to compete in the shows - there's just too many QTippers out there. I love to see all the cars there, from the grungiest rustbucket to the gleamingest garage queen, and how each owner has tailored his or her car to their own tastes. Besides, it's more about the people and the camaderie than it is about how your car stacks up against anyone else's. And if you really want to score points, bring it now in its less-than-stellar condition. Then, when you've got her fixed up for the next show or the one after that, watch the kind of attention you get. There's nothing better than watching the flowers blossom over a few consecutive seasons...

1985 Alpina B9

Original paint and interior with 220K+ on original motor. This was delivered to Texas in 85 and spent all of its life there until I purchased it and brought it back to Atlanta. I was tempted to repaint the car but was able to bring life back to the original paint. The car came with all records and is an unmolested example of a truely unique car. This is Alpina # 558 and is one of 73 made.

Here is a shot of my car as of 2 days ago, so whats new on it?

1. Kumho tires on the 17'' 32's
2. Dinan/bilstein suspension that lowered the car and make it handle better
3. New to me tranny

Still needs paint, but i like the way he sits now.

Hi,

Got this car about a month or so ago and just love it. Best car I have ever owned.

The first picture shows the extra lines on the center of the hood that are specific to the NM edition.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

That is truly sick!! Please do NOT watch TOP GEAR on BBC America, some Limey downs the Shark because "...the top looks something like a beggar would wear..." He goes for the Jag. Nice for a top of the line Ford, but no Shark.

Well, the Neiman Marcus Christmas luxury stuff is pretty special, BMW are incredibly protective of their brand, and there's no denying that car looks pretty damn good, so I think its a deal that's come together pretty well.

I'd take one in a heartbeat. Its never gonna happen, but I'd sure love one!

Sorry if this hijacks your thread, but were there any modifications neccesary to give clearance for the 18*8 and 18*9.5 wheels?

M6csi
09-03-2007, 12:56 PM
Hi, no modification was necessary. Fikse are modular wheels so they are custom manufactured according to their data base on your car. They will ask you about any modifications to your suspension or braking systems as these will affect fitment.

M6csi
09-03-2007, 01:20 PM
Another note on the Fikse wheels, the two Sharkfest pics had 17'' Fikse FM-10 rims mounted, but recently I had changed to a 18" set of Fikse FM-10 rims as pictured with the closeup rim photos. As pictured in the 17" set, no I have not gone BLING, BLING, it's the factory highly polished aluminum finish. The 18" set has a more subdued silver paint finish and a highly polished lip. The lips are not clearcoated so you can polish them to a mirror finish when need be.

G'day,
Thanks for the kind words guys, I live in geelong (70k from Melbourne)

Ol'6erGuy you are correct the color of this car is brasilbraun metallic (sticker on shocker tower) and to be honest I was considering getting it painted a different color but it has now grown on me and will keep as is.

I have to say amibuggnu that car of yours (filthy rich) is 1 of the best e24's I have ever seen, awesome color..
