Are these things any good in the snow ( You know that white cold stuff that you guys don't get in CA?)? All I know is that they are listed in the bimmerforums site. So I am guessing they have something to do with BMW.

Any good? I need mine to be able to climb a mountain to work, so it needs to have a pair of balls under the hood. Also if a pussy magnet is an option I would like one of those as well.

Word on the streets of NH is that they are like little go carts that haul ass around corners.

and

e36>mini coopers.

Plus we dont need to send 47043 welcome back pm's my mail box is full and I would like to keep it that way...

they are fine in the snow, which we do get in co. they are better with snow tires (obviously).

they have a good power to weight ratio. mine does great up our hills out here.

the pussy magnet was a dealer option that was discontinued (apparently it was only working on 45+ women who like to tell someone how cute their car is at gas stations and traffic lights). there are still some after market ones out there, and rumor has it mini is redesigning the factory ones to better tolerences.

mini>e36 sometimes, and sometimes e36>mini.

id wait til the 1 series come out....

1 series looks an awful lot like a slightly smaller 3 series, it's not as small as I hoped

I was waiting, I saw the specs and pictures

ordered a mini cooper S instead

The new minis are great, a friend of mine has an 07. It has power in every gear, has a limited slip, heated seats, not that bad at all on gas, and plenty of other features.

Sounds like the perfect car for you is the General Lee! Bigger balls than you can handle so you will have to practice with it. The 07 is a complete babe getter and the black shag carpet will match the texture of the hair on you back... ;) (come on, smile)

It is a whole a lot of fun to drive. The FWD torque steer is noticeable sometimes but since I am expecting it when I am stepping on the gas pedal I am not surprised.

So I go to edmunds.com to get the TMV and see if nicely equipped can be had for $22k. It appears it can. I click on the thing about getting a free dealer quote, a couple different ways, and it says there are no partners near me, then i just try to find a dealeship, and it says no dealerships withen 200 miles of you.

What to do next?

I'm in Raleigh, NC. It's not like its cambodia or something.....

Find a MINI dealer at the MINI USA Web site. Hendrick MINI in Charlotte is certainly within 200 miles of your location.

I put in an email to the one in winston salem which is close to the
VA and not too far from my sister's house (which means not too overly
out of the way for me), to see what they would say.

Awarrenty would be nice.

It's been a long time since I had a ride with a warrenty

I am in the same boat - I am considering an older MINI, like in the 01-02-03 range (did they go back that far?) for use exclusively in the snow. I figure that it has to have DSC, xenon headlights, heated seats and a stick shift, plus dedicated snow tires a size below stock.

But, how do they do in crash tests? Are they safe? Maybe I should ask that in a separate thread...

pretty safe cars, but physics still against them in head on's

there's crash test vids of a f150 and then a mini, both against a cement barrier, the mini did a LOT better

I work at one here in Hartford Ct. (New Country MINI) Pm me if you have any questions or want to drive one. Trust me when I say they are great in the snow just get All Season Tires when you build one.

I have an '03 version, an automatic....great car. Don't pull out in traffic without a little lag time.........has to spool up then it moves on quite well. Good mileage for an automatic. Little more road noise than I would like but all the other great points cancel that item out.

They're great cars. We're thinking of picking up a 2nd one.

The supercharger on Mini Cooper S is of the roots design. A roots supercharger is a positive displacement, or fixed displacement, supercharger. Therefore it doesn't have spool up lag like a centrifugal supercharger or turbo.

IMHO, the "lag time" xhealey is experiencing is probably attributed to the automatic transmission.

The only lag I've experienced with the standard tranny has been at very low rpms with the a/c on.

I agree - wait for the 128i to come out - or get the 135i if you can spring for it.

I waited 3 years for the details on the 1 series

soon as I had them I realized it's the size of a e46, nothing like the 2002 in my garage, so I ordered a mini cooper S

1er is smaller than 3er but not by much. It is as heavy or heavier though. 1er is not a small nimble car as I take it.

i just traded the E36 on the 07 mini.

Best decision I've made in years.

In fact, I now regret buying the 99 E36 that
was totalled a year ago, because that
would have been 2 more years driving the mini.

Perfect car for me :redspot

But I did SIT in one at a local autoshow. What this showed me was that the front seat went wayyyyy back. At 6'3" I find that I dont fit very well in every car out there, especially if I need to work a clutch, but the mini not only had plenty of front leg room for me, but could have had enough legroom for someone even taller. Other than that 'plus', I didnt like that weird speedometer placement, nor was I a big fan of the star trek interior styling. Ive heard they are great fun to drive and handle very well. Some women may think they are cute, but my wife finds them " ugly as hell".
