Reflectors across entire trunk?

Has anyone seen this before? If so, is it a normal mod or did it come stock on some cars? I'm not thinking about doing it. I'm just curious...

Is that a 3-series? (terrible picture) but yea I've seen it on a 5 and an 8 series?... kinda wierd imo... it's an old addon i thnk...

that looks to me like its reflective vinyl film applied to the entire surface of the trunk. if that ever needs to be taken off, the trunk either needs a respray or you need a new trunk, because that vinyl takes automotive paint off when it comes off.

I've seen it more than once... it's plastic, not vinyl.
