so i had an oil leak next to the ally oil sump bolt some w@nker overtightened it and put a crack in the sump, anyhoo dropped the axle removed the power steering pump and belts dropped the pan cleaned and had it ally welded put a new gasket on and put everything back the way it came off. Put some oil in and started her up.

Started ok then started to cough and sputter and eventually cut off, huh i thought!??!!? whent under again checked everything and alls ok, started up again and same thing. Took it for a drive thinking it will clear up, drove ok pulled like a train but cut out at the light?!

anyone else with similar problems ar anyone know hot to fix it or know how i f@ked something up maybe?

any help will be appreciated.

ps car is a 96 P 3.2 EVO running great before the pan job.

Make sure the PCV system is hooked up. It drains any pooled oil inside the plenum back into the oil sump, and it has a rubber line that runs from the oil separator to the dipstick tube. Also make sure the dipstick tube o-ring is good. They can get cut or damaged if you don't put it back in properly.

well after rooting around the car i have finally arrived to the conclusion that my MAF sensor is foooked.

When the engine is started it is very lumpy and stalls within 30 seconds, when i unplug the MAF the engine idles high for 2 seconds then settls down and no stall?!!? even drove it for 20 miles, then i plug the MAF back in and the same it stalls within 30 seconds.

Ordered another one off fleebay for £90 (ouch)

will post results when fitted.

hope that helps someone else.

Did you try cleaning your maf ?

the s50b32 engines do run not too bad without the maf with an inbuilt (but abit crude) alphaN map. It wouldbe odd for it to be the maf thou with the work carried out unless its just a coincedence.

well after fitting the MAF its still FUQED...tearing my hair out now...

gonna get under the car again to peek at the pipes once again

JamesM3M5: i put a new O ring on the dip stick, all other hoses look secure?

i had the car on a scanner and its throwing out 2 X O2 error codes but those where not fiddled with when i did the pan?

im running out of ideas and patience, fast thinking of cutting my losses and letting her go *booohooooo*

any input would be gratefully appreciated!

ok, just a wild guess.....

Did you check NUMBER 7 ? (one for each cylinder) those rubber caps sometimes fail, I had an idling problem a few months ago, and I hadnt noticed that one of those suckers was broken, so it was sucking air into the ITB, I replaced it (theyre pretty cheap) and voila !!! problem fixed !!!

Hope it helps.

Part number 11-61-1-437-560-M16 on pelicanparts

1 buck each, I guess you can get them even cheaper, on an autoparts store, as Alan says.

If the car ran fine before the work was performed, you obviously hooked up something wrong and its causing the car to run poorly. It sounds like you got a vacuum leak. Check the PCV hoses.

Its come to my attention that on the S50B30 and B32 engines, it is possible to mix the purge valve plug with the air intake temperature plug, they will fit, and interchange without too much difficulty.

However, trying to measure the temperature of the purge valve won't work too well!

Its easy to mess this up, one of my customers (who is VERY smart) got them interchanged. My mechanic (mentor) knew right away what the issue was.

Alex.

Hi all, thanks for all the help once again,

these are the hoses in question right?

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BG92&mospid=47433&btnr=11_2964&%20hg=11&fg=15

is this the complete PCV system or is there something i am missing? as there was a hose that came off the intake air box that runs under the engine and connects to the bottom left hand side of the lump?

+ would not torqueing the sump bolts cause similar symptoms?

i will have some time on monday to re-check these, i will post replies up then.

thanks once again.

ps why am i not allowed to post smilies and urls????
