Will 96+ sidemarkers fit 95- car?

I have a 96' 328i with 95 sidemarkers.
I got a package today with the 96+ style sidemarkers (I ordered 95-) and was wondering if they would fit my car even though I have the older style side markers.

I can't speak for the electrical connections, but my 94 had a 99 coupe's front fender on one side, and the early style sidemarker worked just fine with no modification. It would not surprise me if compatibility went the other direction as well.

I think 95's fit on the 96+ with minor modifications (enlarging some hole) but you can't go backwards (I think)
