No, the short shifter is just a new shifter that shortens the throw in changing gears. The Clutch Delay Valve is a valve in the hydraulic system for the clutch that makes the clutch grab at the same speed no matter how fast you let go of the clutch pedal. The two mods are a good combo.

thanks matt i will do both. but another question. is there an after market cdv cause i read of a garage somwhere on the east cost that does it for free all id have to do is send 2 cdv's and a paid return package and they'd do it. again thanks for the help

Just delete it; all it is is an adapter with a tiny hole to limit how fast fluid can pass through.

thanks guys big help. i think i will just delete it. how do i bleed the slave cylinder? im pretty new, i just got my 97 328is from my dad and so far i've taken out the snorkle and i de-flepped the exhaust. i've also done a proper oil change on my own. so yeah i really wanna do all the work on my car by myself. well once again big help guys! thanks

bimmerdiy.com has a DIY for both in the e36 section. some people recommend getting some sort of modified CDV so you don't have to stretch the hydraulic line the extra inch. I would read the DIY and decide for yourself if you want the modified CDV

I did the CDV delete about 3mos ago. If you are careful and don't lose too much fluid you will not have to drain the master cylinder. Just top it off afterwards. Worked great for me and saved time.

Definitely worthwhile and easy mod - 20mins max.
