I have recently bought a '95 320 convertible and I immediately had the waterpump, thermostat and housing replaced after reading this forum. However I also noticed that my cool fan wobbles slightly. There seems to be no movement on the shaft or clutch. Is this the fan blade itself or the clutch? Can I replace these parts myself? Your help is very much appreciated!

Kind regard,

Damon

i experienced this also. I just deleted my fan and added an electric fan because I was so worried about this. I think you will probably be ok, but if you are paranoid like me just remove it. If you do remove it I would highly reccommend getting an electric puller fan to mount to the radiator.

Thanks for your quick repsonse! Does this also involve draining the cooling system? Or do you just remove the clutch?

Mine did this but the play was in the shaft of the water pump.

The waterpump has recently been replaced at the dealership, so that should be good. Could the fan itself just be bad?

This happened to me. One of your blades is broken. If you drive with it off balance you will blow that waterpump and all the carnage that comes with it. Replacing the fan is not hard, but i'd just take it to the dealer so if anything ever goes wrong they gotta fix it. It is under an hours work and parts are about 70 euro ish, so it'd be worth while.

Check the Fan Delete Mod.

something to add... replace your engine and trans mounts too. I have read that if the engine moves about a lot, the fan can contact the shroud and crack and break off the blades.
