Hi
I am selling my 4 door 1997 BMW M3. Bought it to be my daily driver but never really drove it. I moved out to college and never used the car. I since then bought and e46 m3 and now I have to sell this car.
Here are the specs:
Techno Violet on Murberry grey
130k miles
5-speed
Luxury Package
Power Sport seats
OEM alarm
Heated seats
Sunroof
Wood Grain Package
Upgrades:
Cd43
Zimmerman cross drilled rotors
Axxis Pads
Euro Tail lights
Euro Corners
Euro Sidemarkers
BBS RC 18x8.5
Stock rims with Michelin snow tires.
The Bad:
The car has a rebuilt title. The history is as follows. I bought the car from an insurance company. The car did not have any damage bodywise. The car had all of the lines such as: brake lines and fuel lines cut also it sustained very limited undercarriage. The engine did not start. I replaced fuel lines and brake lines. Once I fixed all the problems that the engine started right up. I was able to drive the car and had no problems with the car. I drove the car for a couple thousand miles with no problems. After some time passed I found out the previous owner. I talked to him and found out the story. What happened was he was driving behind a pickup truck and while driving a large piece of metal fell out the back of the bed. The owner ran over the piece of metal causing the damage. The insurance company feared the engine had gone bad along with the brake lines. That is why they totaled the car. I bought the car and fixed the problems and it solved the problems. I can have the previous owner talk to prospective buyers.
The heated seats are not working, the problem is the sensor that recongizes that someone is sitting in the seat is not working. The seat basically turns on but after 5 secs the seat turns off as if no one is sitting in it.
The Good:
The car has had all major maintenance done; All cooling items replaced New water pump, T-stat, Radiator etc.
The previous owner replaced the springs with brand new OEM springs.
New clutch was put in.
Rear Control arms replaced.
Brakes were replaced by me with Zimmerman cross drilled rotors and Axxis Pads
Car is in great shape and still in stock form with only light mods.
Asking price is $12,000 OBO
WILL TRADE FOR AND SUV 97-99 in year plus cash

Yes that is the story I got. If it is true or not I dunno but the car had NO BODY Damage, when I bought it and the is what most people fear with rebuilt title cars.

I will pass on that offer. Good luck finding a 5spd M3 for under 10k without needing major work clean or rebuilt title, Wrecked M3's that has not been fixed sell for $4000-$8000 depending on year and mileage

I don't agree... I've seen a good number of good M3s with that mileage for 9-12k. With a salvage title 7k is not a bad offer and probably the absolute max of what I would offer for it too. GL with your sale.

Of course you have everyone has but funny thing is when I look around at the market of m3's I don't find any 5spd M3 for under 10k that doesn't need major work, you might find an auto but not a manual. An M3 sedan in my area just sold for $12.5k with a rebuilt title and with 115k and stock with NO mods that is where I based my asking price. I really don't care and am not getting into debates.
NOT SELLING FOR $7K - $8k - $9k it is not worth it for me I would just keep it and use it as a daily driver for that price so Everyone reading knows.

Looks like a great car. But sketchy title issues are the resale "kiss of death" if you will. Most buyers are going to need to get financing. Most lenders will not finance salvaged cars. Because of this your potential pool of buyers just got very small. My advice is settle for around 10-11K if you get offered that amount. If not then keep her. She's a good lookin girl with a great color combo and tasteful mods.:)

There are tons of banks that finance rebuilt cars. Capital One is just one of them I know because I have used them to finance a rebuilt title car.

What do you expect?
Would you buy your next car with a salvage title?

Of course I would in a heart beat. I just bought an e46 m3 it has a clean title but that is because I wanted one in the LSB color and I could not find one that was salvaged. Everyone here thinks salvage are no good that is the sigma. What no one realizes it just depends on how it is fixed. If it is fixed half assed then you will have problems, but if you do the job right it just like fixing a car that has been in an accident. If while driving your car you get into a small accident are you going to say your car is worthless? If you don't fix your car right from that small accident you won't have the car driving right well it is the same with salvage car.

Sorry but most salvage cars (in the real world) only have about 50% of the value of the same car with a clear title. Typically a car like this would sell between 10k and 12k, which makes this car worth 5-6k. His offer of 7k is actually pretty good for you.
Ask any dealer what they'll give you for a salvage car.

I love when people talk not knowing what they are talking about. That is funny since M3's that are damaged and NOT fixed sell for $3-$6k depending on year and mileage and since this is fixed then I would sell my car for the same price as a M3 that is wrecked? Whatever go ahead and find you magical car for that price of 5-6k.

Based on the salvage title issue, I'm sure you were able to purchase the car for far less than it's true street value and of course any blue book values (you probably were able to purchase it for either ACV value or the "Black Book" value) - so with that in mind, even with the $7k cash offer, you should be banking some profit if it was a smart buy...
As for E36 M3 5 spds being hard to find and being sold for $12k or less - you have not searched this forum, because there are quite a few listed on this site (and others) and in some instances, they have less accummulated miles AND come with clear titles. Being that the vehicle has a salvage title it's going to be harder to sell to the next person - because most buyers will also think of their future resale issues... Even though you had the capability of fixing the vehicle correctly, salvage titled vehicles (be it major or minor damages that initiated the title branding) are just potential risks for future resale purposes. One of the reasons is because in some States it's harder to get a salvage, reconstructed, theft recovery, flood or fire car titled without having to go through a ton of paperwork and inspection processes. In FL, once a car is branded w/ a salvage title, it can never be titled in FL or used on public roads again... now you can take that same vehicle to another State and get it titled depending on that State's laws...
back TTT for ya and Good luck w/ the sale, looks like a nice M3

BMW M3 S50...Great car and good pricing. It is quite apparent that these members have NO experience with prior salvage vehicles and know NOT of what they speak. Between my brother, father and I, we have owned over 40 prior salvage title vehicles. BEST way to get an awesome car at a great price. If anyone would like to discuss the prior salvage topic with someone experienced in it, feel free to PM me.
Buyers, don't sleep here...great deal to be had.

Unfortunately, older BMW's have a smaller used car audience. Respectively many think that there parts and maintenance are expensive in comparison to there Japanese competition. Your M3 sedan is very rare, but add that the M3 market is small including sedans with a salvage title. The car is just harder to sell. Be patient and you will definitely get your price of $10,000- $11,000. Not the car I would purchase for my own reasons, but I paid a large premium for a Estoril Modena Sedan with 42,000 miles because of it's rarity. Good Luck with the sale the car looks clean.
