Hi to all- About two weeks ago I purchased a 2002 Z3 coupe which does not have any cracks, rattles, and things that do not work. I guess I am lucky as when I purchased it I was not aware of all the problems these cars could have. One thing I did do was buy from a BMW dealer that certified the car.
It is not a pristine example as it has 78,000 on the clock, but it s used as my daily driver.

Now for the only problem I have (which I caused) by removing the passenger seat to try to fix a lump in the leather caused by the seat heater strip. As all of you know but I did not, with the seat removed, when you turn the key on the air bag light comes on and stays on.
I know I can purchase a SRS tool to turn off the light, but I remember reading a thread in the last week or so that talked about a wire and clip arrangement that could be used to also cancel the light if you followed the accompanied directions. I have tried to find this thread again by can not. Will someone with a better memory and skills than i have please tell me the thread.
Thank you
gary

The trick you're thinking of is to reset the oil service indicator, not SRS.

For a truely long term solution...obtain a roll of black electricians tape, slice a 3/4 " piece and carefully blank out the flippin light.

YMMV

or, like in my 240, with the driver's side airbag removed (racing steering wheel) the light will be on forever.

Just pull the cluster out and pop out the bulb if you're desparate.

But just take the car to a service center that can work on bmw's (don't have to go to a dealership) and have them reset the light

Sometimes (but perhaps not in all cases), the SRS light means that the airbags will not function. So it's worth it to get it reset.

You can buy the reset tool from LeatherZ.com. There are multiple Peake tools. You want the one that specifically does the SRS system reset.

Does anyone have one of these around MSP that could help me out? My airbag light is on and I would like to have it cleared, or at least find out why it is on without going to a dealer. I am new to the bmw forums and bmw cars. I have been looking around for awhile but this is my 2nd post. Everybody seems really helpful.

Thanks in advance,
Troy

The cluster has two bulbs for the airbag light. You can pull the external one, but there is another one inside that is much harder to get to. The light will still light, but it will be dimmer.

:D I think you can infer from the post how I know this!

As a newbie you really should do some checking around and find the best independent BMW mechanic in Minn/St Paul. You are fortunate not to have any trouble at all. Eventually you will, and that is not the right time to be shopping for the best guy. You'll end up at the dealership and probably won't be able to sit for a week or so afterwards. You should make friends with someone before you need him!

You can find an indy in your area through the BMWCCA. You should join, the magazine alone is worth the membership fee. Also, you can put a post in the regional forums down below on this site, asking for references to someone good in your area.

Having a friendly indy is a great thing. I stopped by mine last night around 6:30 pm. We shot the breeze for a few minutes, then he reset my airbag light for me. I do all my maintenance with him so he doesn't charge me for little things like that. My light went on when I was installing my NONchrome gauge surrounds in my cluster and removed the steering wheel.
