I have been searching and have been getting lost with all the information that I have found. I know there is a thread that is still going on right now, but some members are arguing about something which made me even more lost. So I'm posting this so that I can get a recommendation for my specific needs.

I have a set of 18' BBS RC's that I want to replace the tires. I currently have Toyo Proxies4 and want to try something else. I'm looking at Toyo T1-R's but some have said that the sidewalls kind of weak. I like the Michelin PS2's but they are a little more then I want to spend.

Anyways I only have one car so it's my DD. I don't track/race or drive hard. I live in Maryland and it rains often so I need something with good wet and dry traction. Sometimes I go downtown where there are a lot of potholes so I need something with a pretty decent sidewall. I've tried Nitto's once before and got bubbling on all four side walls. Right now I have 225/40/18, and a wheel shop near me said I should try something a little wider, so which way is wider (235/40/18 or 225/45/18). Should I even go wider? I'm looking to spend around $150/tire and no more then $185/tire.

I would appreciate any recommendations that you can make for me. TIA

i don't think there are many tires that cost less than PS2s or RE050A's that have good stiff sidewalls with the possible exception of the Hankook RS2s or the Falken RT615s. Those tires are really more of track/autox tires IMO and wouldn't be great for a car that is daily driven and not tracked or autox'ed since they're not great in the rain. I think you'd be happy with the upgrade to the T1-Rs, or something else in that price range. If you're looking for a stiffer sidewall, it seems that the BFG G-Force Sport gets relative praise (among tires in a similar class) for it's steering response (the usual reason people complain about a soft sidewall is decreased steering response).
