Question about BBS OEM wheels

I have a 99 528 with the 17 in BBS wheels that came with the car. The wheels seem to have a thin plastic coating on them, but this coating has begun to crack and break in some spots.
Anybody had a similar experience? Any advice on what to do.

aswered my own question with more searching, guess that "plastic" is clear coat.

yes, have them sand blasted.

Then powdercoat the centers and sand the hell out of the lips with really fine sandpaper and then seal them for a polished lip

better then going through all the headache paint strip the lips with aircraft stripper and polish them.
