alternator problems

well i cant afford to buy a new alternator for a couple weeks so im goign to the junkyard tomorrow, do I need to get an alternator from a car with the same engine? ie the m42 or will any e30 alternator work?

Many of the BMW alternators from this era are the same. You need to check the part number and the Bosch part number. If you get an alternator from another model or engine you may need to change the mounting brackets. Make sure you get the same (or more) amps.
