Just got my car back from shop and one of the things that was to be repaired was a P/S leak. Was told that the P/S pressure hose was replaced. When I went to leave, I noticed that the car was hard to stee and that the steering wheel movement was "jerky". He re-checked and said he noticed that the new hose didn't have a metal piece in it, and that BMW says that that is the correct replacement hose. Now, he is try to find a fitting with that piece in it to attach to the new hose.

Does this sound right? What is that piece and is it the cause of my steering problems? What advice can I give my shop on fixing this problem.

Thanks In Advance.

Yes, the positive pressure P/S hose should have the metal flange. Call BMA to order one. I think its around $25 or so and takes 10 minutes to install.

Your new hose should have metal fittings at each end, one or both of them are banjo bolts. Its jerky because there is air in the line.. It will go away after the air bleeds out.

Spoke with my shop this evening and he told me that the pressure hose busted. You couldn't tell by looking at it but when he put fluid back in he said you could see it shooting out.

The good news I guess is that he said I should have it back by noon tomorrow.

More to come...

Does anyone have a picture of what the metal piece inside the presuure hose looks like? I'm reading so much about it but I haven't seen a photo of what it looks like.

Thanks
