The offset on the rears is et20 the fronts are et8 I still have about 3/4" left on the rears, I could go even bigger.

what do you have as far as suspension? Doesnt look like you needed to roll the fenders or anything. More details about the clearnance too please.

No rolling required, e34s can take BIG rubber with ease. There is about 3/4 of an inch clearance at the fender, like i said the et 20 allows that.
Car is lowered with h&r sls specific springs.

Seriously. A lot of guys seem to think 265 is the limit but that's no where close. Shoot, my 275's on a 18x9.5 (et25) don't really fill the wheel well out as much as they could (or that I would like).

I bet you could run a 15mm spacer and be fine. Your setup is 15mm farther in than mine, I think..

Ok, well my tires are 10mm wider than yours and your wheels are 5mm further in than mine that = 15mm. My setup still has 10+ mm of room.

Thats funny.. I didnt think that I would ever be spending this kind of money on used wheels but I had a feeling these were the 'ones'.
The e34 just kind of 'begs' for wide low offset wheels:redspot

I have 255s on the back of my car and it could handle more, but when I bought some 265s they wouldn't fit. What brand tire are you using?

I was looking for 235/40 for the front but I ended up going with 255/40 in front....simply because I cant find any T1S in that size.
265/40 in the back
when my coilovers are done this will change...235/40 front, 245/35 rear.:buttrock

They were Pzero - Yellows on my staggered BBS RX wheels 17x9 in the back. Weird thing is, I know there's plenty more room, but after they hit, I didn't want to try again. Pirellis are big for their size. I'm going to get some 18x10s and try again. Thanx

I could never get away with tires/rims that wide in the back I don't think... When loaded I tuck rim, unloaded I still tuck tire.
Looks great though, I'm warming up to the rim itself slowly.

There's been a lot of talk on whether the rears rub. I'm wondering about the 18x9 wheels in the front. I'm running 18x8 w/ 235's all around. I was thinking of getting 18x9 w/ 265's in the rear, but I'd like to keep neutral handling and the ability to rotate tires. Your front tires have an offset of 8, so it would be like an ET20 tire w/ a 10mm spacer -- I guess that would be required to prevent front rubbing (18x9, ET20 would probably rub). But would 265's clear up front? I know Dinan's E39 front wheels are 18x9 (they recommend 275's up front), but I don't know the offset or whether the E39's have more space up front than E34s.

The et8 in front is like a et20 with a 10 mm spacer, it sits farther out in the wheel well. Your comment about 18x9 et20 rubbing doesnt make any sense?
The fronts have a ton of room, I dont see 275's with a higher offset being a problem.

I think we were saying the same thing about the spacers. I may have been confusing in the wording -- as you said, et20 + 10mm spacer is practically the same as et8. The smaller offset should put the inside of the 18x9 wheel in about the same place as my 18x8 at et20 -- it would just be 1" wider on the outside edge. the rubbing part with 18x9 et20 without spacers was just a guess-- i.e. it would be closer in than yours, so it might rub on turns. Now I've never tried anything wider than 18x8, 235 myself, so there may be plenty of room for all I know, although I thought I'd read at least one place that 18x8.5 was the max practical width for the E34 fronts. Sounds like 18x8.5, 245 may be the max at et20, but et8 (or w/ a spacer) 18x9, 275 would probably work.
In any case I probably won't be getting new wheels until after I replace the clutch (which isn't needed just yet), so I've got plenty of time here.

The other HUGE factor to consider is how much you really need in front. I think 245/255 is plenty. Any more and you will make the tramlining and loose steering of these cars even more apparent. With the torque of the 540 you don't notice the staggered tire effect that cars like the E36's do.

255 is plenty for street use, like seth said the front end is twitchy enough as it is..
All e34's have the steering nut you can tighten dont they? My old 89 535m did.

I haven't looked on my 540 for it, but I know my 535 did. Also, the center drag link can make a big impact as well.
