I've been out of the tire scene for years now and the S-03s that I've had on for god knows how long are finally nearing the end of their lives. I've been pretty happy with the S-03s and am looking for tires with excellent wet and dry traction as well as decent longevity. Price is not a huge concern, though I would like to get the best bang for the buck as opposed to spending the most for the best. I'm a spirited daily driver, and also plan to take my M3 to a track day or two this year. Changing tires is not an option, so I'd like something that's equally competent as DD and rare track day rubber.

The only problem I have with the S-03s is that they rub the corner of my exhaust/muffler when I take hard corners. I'm lowered on H&Rs/Bilsteins but have stock rims on my 98 M3 with a staggered setup. I'd like tires that are thinner this time around.

Any suggestions?

The replacement for the S03's are the RE050A Pole Positions; pretty much similar perf, price, etc.
I changed my rear to these from the S03's and notice they have a more rounded shoulder that helps with fender lip clearance for lowered cars. Not sure how much it will help your exhaust clearance though

The rubbing issue is my main concern for now...I'd definitely like to get tires that aren't as meaty/thick to help eliminate that problem for good.

...or you could change tire size. I just put 235 Michelin PS2's on my car and I love em so far. I came from 245 Kuhmo MX's for reference. Definitely worth looking into.

Right now I'm leaning toward a set of Eagle F1s.

I went from SO3s to the PS2. I was very much a fan of the SO3s and I can tell you that I am wayyyyy more impressed with the PS2. The ride quality is better, the tire noise is less, the grip is incredible, and they are 4lbs lighter per tire the the so3 in the same size. PS2 all the way!
