View Full Version : My M5 Wont Start !
I have my M5 in the shop getting some work done, i went over a curb avoiding a cat and put a hair line crack in my oil pan. Getting the oil pan replaced, but now it wont start. It turns over but its not firing. My ignition is connected and all wires good. Its not throwing any codes either. Any suggestions as to what it could be ?

Have you checked to see if the fuel pump pressurizes the fuel system when you turn the key on?
You'll hear a humming noise from under the rear end of the car if the fuel pump is working.
Mine went out back in January right after it received a good jolt (drunk leaving the bar next door to the mechanics shop backed into the rear end of mine...).
Didn't think about that , i'm having the fuel pump replaced because its got 177 000 km on it anyways so hopefully that could fix the problem. Thanks alot :)

CAT < M5. I would have squished it. As for the problem... I would disconnect/reconnect the battery and see if that resets the computer and helps, other than that... i dunno.
Talked to the mechanic, fuel pressure is there . Any other ideas ?

Does the sparkplug fire?
I think you should look into the electronics...

Is the intake blocked up? My boss had a similar problem last year on his 540. Fuel wasn't getting to engine because of electronics and something to do with the intake. And double and triple check the ignition wires. They may look connected, but could be otherwise. And check the wires. That cause a friends 3 series to not start. Then check the timing as well. Bad timing means no starting... which my same friends 3 series timing was off after he let his car sit for 4 days in the cold. That was freaking weird.

You cracked your oil pan avoiding a cat? I dont serve for anything less than Deer, Horse, or Cow. (Oh there was that one time with the herd of sheep...)

Is there oil in the pan? Most cars have a saftey shut off.. If there is NO oil pressure it will disable the ignition...
I think my e28 535i did... Jumped it and when it landed, cracked the oilpan bad, oil went everywhere car shutoff and wouldn't restart untill i fixed the pan and refilled the oil...
Try to give ECU a good spank :) (while turnig the engine)
talked to the mechanic yesterday , theres no fuel pressure. Hopefully after putting my new fuel pump in all will be well :)
