The DSC, brake and ABS indicator lights wouldn't go out on my 01' E38. Pushing the DSC button didn't change a thing. The owners manual directs you to the dealership for repair. The first thing I did was check the 2 fuses for the ABS. They weren't blown but removing and cleaning the contacts fixed the problem and saved some time and money. I just thought I'd share this info.
I love this car.

Glad it worked out! Consider yourself lucky. Many times it's one of the wheel speed sensors or the ABS/DSC module. In case of the latter, Module Master (http://www.modulemaster.com/bmwabsrepair.html) did a great job for me a year ago - saved me a few hundred $$ by rebuilding the module. Highly recommended.

I just replaced my wheel sensor today, drivers front, $135.00 BMWCCA Discount reg. $155.00. Easy to replace though the plastic that the new sensor plugs into was brittle and broke into pieces but stayed together enough to replug the new sensor again.

The old sensor wires were frayed and set off the ABS/ASC light.

Reasembled, road tested no more warning light! :D

I never get that lucky - mine cost me a module. Bought a new one from BMW - not cheap.

Well, I guess I'm not as clever as I thought. The DSC/ABS lights are burning again. I took the car to a reputable "Indy" for confirmation of what I suspected. It's the DSC controller ($1000 installed). Hello Module Master ($320). I did save a few bucks on the test though, $40 vs $105 at the dealer.

You can drive without the module. Of course, no speedometer or odometer, and no ABS or DSC functions.
In my case, ModuleMaster was very quick turn-around.
