Hi All,
I hope you can helps with this. I am looking to purchase some alloys for my 7 Series- E38, which currently has 16inch Wheels. A friend of mine has a 540i, and has the 17 in alloys Im after- he's offered to give me them for a really good price, but can anyone clarify the following for me?
1. Does it matter the fact that the alloys came off a 540i instead of a 7 series?
2. More importantly, the set that my friend is offeringhas larger rears than the fronts...what are the implications of this?
Thanks,
Ismail

Hey man,

1. I've got a vague idea, it should fit, but you might have to mess with a few things, like offset. I'm sure someone else that has knowledge of this will post.

2. It's called a staggered set, you might need the arches rolling. Nothing major, I don't think anyway. I've got staggered on mine, and the only thing I've noticed that the speedo is abit off, but that's the same for all aftermarket wheels. You might have an issue with the ABS, but that's very doubtful.

Good luck man, I'm sure I'll be seeing you soon!

If your car currently has a neutral set-up and you're a hard driver, you'll notice understeer with the staggered set-up.

E39s have a hub measurement of 74.1mm. That will cause vibrations on cars having a 72.56mm which is basically the rest of the modern BMW line-up. You'd have to use hubcentric rings to make them work.
