OK, in about two weeks I am going to order some BMP Coilovers. I want to put them on myself and was wondering if there is any advice or webpage that would be helpful. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but I have never done this before. Any helpful hints or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks

I just had coilovers installed on my M, man they are fun to drive with...anyways back to the original question...most of the work is pretty easy provided you have the tools...and either jackstands or a lift...i had access to a lift to do mine(and a mechanic =)) but its possible to do them yourself, you will need a spring compressor to remove the rear springs and all day to complete the job. I reccomend having a shop do them just because it would be a pain in the ass to do the work all by yourself.

Somewhat OT, but who manufacturers the coilovers for BMP??

If you lack a spring compressor, and are too lazy to go out and find a shop that does have one, there is a way to do it. If you have a jack, you can compress the spring by putting the strut unit underneath the rear lower control arm, and on the jack. Then you can just pump up the jack, and the unit will compress, which will allow you to get the nut off which holds the strut and spring together. Be careful when you do this though. I dont want to be responsible for holes in peoples trunks.

jww///95,

The BMP coilovers use either Sachs' Boge shocks or Koni adjustable shocks depending on if you go with the sport setup or the race setup. The spring rate for the two are the same but with the race setup you get the added functionality of adjustable Koni's. I am not sure who makes the springs but they are German made and the kits are TUV approved. So far I haven't found anyone who has tried them but I figured I would give them a shot. I was looking at the H&R's but you can't adjust the rear ride height like you can on the BMP's. I will give a product review as soon as I have them installed.

Hey there,

I just got a set of the H&R's and all of the paperwork with them has them listed as having rear height adjustments.. Rear adjustment capability was also listed in the specs on them that I had found before ordering this set.. For some reason the H&R's in the BMP catalog dont list adjustability in the rear, but I know that I've seen them listed other places as being adjustable. Maybe there are a few different H&R Coilover sets out there..

I'm having Mine installed on Wed, so if you are interested, I'll get some Photos when its done and update you on how the rears adjust..

Thanks CountZero..

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your H&R's and for how much. I am about to make the decision on which to order and would rather get the H&R's if they are indeed rear adjustable.

Thanks again,

I got my H&R's through a Group Purchase from Eric at Supreme Power Parts. They were $1399 + Shipping I believe. (I dont have the Invoice in front of me right now) It was a really good deal...

I believe that the Group Purchase is still active until the 1st of March, so if you are interested, I would give Eric a Call ASAP. I looked again last night, and the H&R's are listed as being adjustable on Both the SPP web site, and over at Turner Motorsports website as well. I'm sure that Eric at SPP could verify that for you so you could be sure.. Good Luck!

Hopes that helps!
