Hey

So my purchase of an 87 325e fell through...it needed a lot more work than i planned on.

I'm 16 and don't have a lot of money and am looking for a reliable school car that needs work but not enough where its a dangerous situation. Something around 2k and located in the midwest. I'm in Lincoln, NE soo...KC, OK ish.

I would PREFER a late 80's 325 and i would PREFER it to be auto BUT really I'm not to picky and honestly don't have any room to be picky. So if you guys know of or happen to have something that kinda maybe sorta fits this description, maybe we could work something out.

Um, did you even look? The second one would be the best if someone hasnt grabbed it yet. You should also try craigslist they usually have a few es or autos.

Get a Volvo 240, or 740. They run great on cheap gas, and a good solid car you can pile tons of boring miles on with little to no cost.

I'll sell ya mine for $1500 and it's running fine.

Don't laugh, many people may chime in and agree.

Plus, insurance will be dirt cheap plus it will teach you how to use momentum in the turns.

This guy does kinda have a point, I wish I would have been smart enough to get into something other then a BMW for my first car. They will get you into tons of trouble when you are first learning. And I have a friend at the dealership who does all my matinence cheap. If you can only afford 2k for a car then there is no way you will be able to mantain it correctly. Buy a cheap volvo or Benz and learn how to drive that, save your money and after a year or so learning to drive buy the BMW.

Yeah, but worse with older and CHEAPER e30s.

The thing with the Volvo is, it's a tank. You can hit shit with it and not go to the body shop. Plus with a bajillion of these around parts are at any Autozone dirt cheap or at the local junk yards.

I plan on getting a 940 Turbo as a keeper, the 240 was just a fluke. I bought it for $1100 and put about $500 into it. It's gotten me to work EVERY day for a year and a half.

Those rims were $200 with tires, try that with a BMW.

I had a 740 GLE for 10 years and 161,000 miles, all through college and can tell you the top 10 key points.

1 It will carry two kegs standing up in the trunk.
2 You can fuck in it, back seat is large enough for mulitple positions.
3 You can sleep in it.
4 Hot chicks parents see it as a "Smart Car" and are more likely to extend her curfew.(See 3)
5 The bumpers won't get bashed in school parking lots.
6 It's Rear wheel drive so it does donuts like nobody's business
7 They jump pretty good, railroad tracks, driveway aprons etc.
8 It will hold 15 people for a few blocks.
9 Cops don't give them a second look, even at 80.
10 Most are lightly driven by old ladies, not beat to shit like old BMWs.

:lol A good friend of mine had a 5spd turbo Volvo wagon and all of the above is true. He would also go racing in it surprising quite a few Hondas.

volvo for life. they are truly solid cars...i've been looking for a 240/242 coupe for a year or so. you can even build it up a bit if you like. plus as others have said they are RWD so there can be some parking lot fun. the looks of astonishment you will get when dr.ifting a volvo will be 10times what you will get in a bmw.

volvos are nice rides man, i drove them all through school. nothing really breaks that is too hard to fix, or costs that much money. solid cars and you can beat them up. and one thing i have learned, no matter what the blue book of the car is, you can ALWAYS sell them for at least $1,000...ALWAYS...lol. good luck with your search

volvos are reallly great cars and the 240 is far from a fluke if you got a turbo with a 4sdp with overdrive you could get like 700 hp out of those motors and dirt reliable and cheap. When cleaned up right they look good too

Older BMW 2002's are great cars for kids that have basic mechanical skills. It's pretty much all I've driven since I was 16 and I'm 52 now. Parts are cheap and their easy to work on. They handle way better than a volvo that's for sure and they have a real cult status. Plus they hold their value much better than the average car, just my 02 cents worth. steve
