When I am cuising at 75mph on throttle and I lift off, I feel this light two stage bump in the drive train. Feels almost like a hard shift. It happens again when I gently apply the gas. No matter how gently I apply it, I feel it.

Thoughts?

this happens in my moms 99 volvo v70. i brought it to a mechanic and he said that it was the MAF. i dont know how to fix it but does it happen at any other speeds?

750iL? Sounds like the drive shaft center carrier bearing. Do you hear a nice thump on hard acceleration?

I'm afraid I don't have an answer, but oddly I have the same problem at the opposite time heh. If I'm cruising on the highway and floor it it shifts hard and sorta 'klunks'. It doesn't really sound like a metal klunk per se, but klunk just seems appropriate. Definently not a warm-fuzzies kind of sound.

Good luck, hope it's not something major!

Yup. Thanks for the info, I will have it checked out when I have more time. Is this a hard DIY if you have access to a lift and a decent set of tools?
