Hi everyone!
Just wanted to introduce myself and say Hello. I am a long time BMW fan. Partially restored a 1985 735i and finally had to give her up. I have missed her! As a single Mom, the repairs, etc. got to be too much. The good news is, the kids have finished college and the 2001 740's now fit into my budget! I think it is the most gorgeous car I have ever seen ..). Most of my friends and family think I am crazy and all I say to them is "have you ever owned and or driven a BMW???, spoiled for life.
The info on this forum is great and I hope I get to know some members and I look forward to your expertise and help. If you happen to see or hear of a nice car, (01, 740i sport) I would greatly appreciate it if you would let me know. I would like a low mileage car as I plan to keep it forever (famous last words)
Thanks and happy driving!
D

Welcome! Welcome!

I'm the opposite of a single mom, I'm an only child.

Have you checked Auto Trader's website? That's how I found my 740.

Aloha!

Welcome to the group! :D

Usually on ebay there are lots of e38's in Florida. Check that out!
Good luck! Don't be afraid to ask questions. We may be able to help.

Welcome aboard. You can't make a better choice as the '01 was the last of the e38s and most of the bugs had been worked out, so all in all, it is a fairly trouble free platform (with the possible exception of the radiator and overflow tank).

It is still possible to find them with 40k miles although the original CPOs will be running out soon. If the 'deal'er offers an aftermarket warranty, buy it, and if you buy from a private party, there are plenty of others who offer it, just peruse the fine print carefully.

Good luck in your search, and keep us informed.

Thanks for the kind and welcoming words. My daily routine is a check of new listings on Autotrader.com, cars.com, here on this forum, and EBAY. I put a deposit on a white (good color for FL) 740 with 55k miles on it in Miami. It was at a Ford dealership and they were asking 18,2. I was approved at the credit union and ready to go down and pick it up. When trying to get the final invoice from them for the bank, they told me it sprung a leak (I've heard about the radiators at 55K). They said they couldn't "trust" it now and wouldn't sell it to me (they were going to wholesale it, (right) I was heartbroken. I think one of the sales people grabbed it. What HS! I kept the VIN# to track it, but it's gone. Wish I had found this forum then, I would have offered to pay someone from the Miami area to go look at it for me.
There's another white sports on Autotrader with 43k miles, looks awesome but I think $33K a bit much and out of my budget. If anyone has a minute, take a look at the silver one with 43K miles on Autotrader in Wilton, CT. My husband ( I'm not a single Mom anymore..), will fly up and drive her down, if I want that one, we are talking to the owner now. What do you think is a fair price for it. THANKS-YOU GUYS ARE TERRIFIC.

:confused You got married since your original post? That's fast ... not that it's any of my business.

Well congratulations!!!

I'm good, what can I say..
When I had my 85 735i, I was single. I might still have that car, if I hadn't lost my mechanic-he was truly the best. I don't know where he went, but he was awesome. He knew the car inside and out and didn't rip me off.
Maybe I should have married my mechanic, LOL

Regretting your decision already?

Well, it's hard to know if you've made a good choice when you've only known your current spouse for less than 8 hours. But don't worry D, I'm sure everything will work out. Just remember that communication is what usually ruins a relationship. That's right, too much communication will kill any marriage.

I remember back to 1985. I think you and I would have been single at the same time. I had just gotten over the heart break of the woman I loved. It was 1984 and her name was Brittany. I loved her dearly, but we drifted apart. I was only 7-years-old at the time, but you know going from kindergarten to the 1st grade is a big transition in a man's life. And even though I'm deep in my mid-to-late twenties now, I often look back to those earlier years.

Oh really? Well, I'll see if my wife has an open mind about those kind of things. And after my wife shoots me for entertaining such an idea for even just a split second, you guys can have my tools. I have some nice wrenches.

Seriously though, they're pretty nice wrenches.

Yeah, people at work think I've lost my mind buying a 7. Sometimes I think they might be on to something. When you're behind the wheel all that stuff doesn't seem to matter as much. It still hurts to fill up the tank with premium going for $3.30 a gallon right now but there's nothing like a 7!

Welcome to the "padded room"!

D,
Welcome to our sandbox.
I want to wish you well in your quest to acquire an E38. I fell in love with my first E38, so much so that I spent quite a bit modifying her and even boughta 2nd E38 as a family sedan.
Be patient, your car is out there somewhere.

It's a 2000 740i Sport Imola Red, has 98K miles, but: one owner, never any paint, all repair receipts(tons of them) from day One at Braman BMW in West Palm Beach, extended warranty expires in July this year or 100K miles. The car is immaculate and almost all parts under the hood have been replaced.

Welcome!! Time for a road trip???
You have no idea how I am looking forward to a road trip in my new 7. I'm trying to be patient and do my due diligence on my new purchase. My daughter just moved to Charleston and I'd say that would be the perfect first road trip. Although the first one will more than likely be her drive home to Momma!
Thank you all for your warm welcome! Thanks for the links, I will read through them. And remember kids, keep me in mind when you see a great 7.

A little too flashy for me though, I am almost a grandma. So would you recommend buying a car from Braman?

I haven't heard too many good things about Braman Motors.

I didn't care much for Norman Braman :finger22 when he owned the Philadelphia Eagles either

Oviedo is in Seminole county, I also live in Seminole County on the west side, they are on the east side of the county. Lovely area. I'm a real estate appraiser, so I get around ..) Nice area, do they like it?

Yes.
It happened that one of my brothers was Pulte Homes' #2 producer nationwide here in the Northeast. At the same time my Mom was looking in the Tuskawilla area and she settled on a Pulte home so my brother made a few calls and before you know it, Mom was moved in and keepin cool in her new digs.

I bought my last BMW from my neighbor and gave him a check on a Friday night. He said "you really have to watch your speed, you'll be going 90 and not even know it" and he said; "you will constantly be asked about the wheels (mo-mo's)". Next day I was driving my daughter to a football game (she was a cheerleader, yes a yuppy puppy) I got pulled over!!!!!!!!!!! First day I owned the car, my first speeding ticket ever!!!!, On the way home I stopped for gas and the gas station attendant asked me what kind of wheels were on the car! Thanks neighbor!
