I already posted one of these in the E36 section but seeing as these engines were available in other models I might as well post here for everyone to see and hopefully someone to answer.
#1: Does anyone know what the combustion chamber volume is for a M50/M52 head?
#2: Which manual transmissions were originally available in cars with these engines, and if any, are there any other transmissions that will bolt up to these engines? It seems like this should be readily available info but I can't seem to find it anywhere...

Not sure on the first one.
The tranmissions are:
Getrag S5D 250 G
Getrag S5D 200 G
ZF S5D 310 Z
ZF S5D 320 Z
If anyone else could shed some light on the differences between them or at least chime in with the model/year/tranny in their car, that'd be cool.
I know that e30 325 manual trannys bolt up, but they sit at an odd angle which makes the shifter sit at an odd angle too. You have to use a different shifter mount if you use one. I'd personally recommend NOT going this route and saving the cash and getting one of the trannys mentioned above out of an e36. Trust me, you'll be saving yourself a LOT of headache. :)

I've been told that nearly all modern transmissions BMW ever offered bolt right up. The US 6 speed for instance.

Thanks a lot for the model names. Now that I have that I can look up gear ratios, etc. And yeah I know the E30 getrag bolts up, but I wouldn't use it on an M50 swap, not necessarily cause it sits at a bad angle, but because I'm sure the gear ratios in the E36 transmissions are better matched to the M50/M52's power band.
