Shipping Car from Europe to States?
Hello all, The is my first Post on BimmerForums.com and im a soon to be Noob of the BMW society. My current situation is that im a Sailor in the US Navy currently Stationed in Naples, Italy. Im currently planning on buying a 318i from a fellow PCS-ing shipmate at a very genorous price. As i read different things about the E36 from owners on this forum i can't help but thinking about the things i can do to this ride. Getting the customizing "BUG" as i'll call it. Growing up i had always admired the BMW's design and Sporty Look. Back when i was Living in Miami my cousin had a M3 and let me just say that those are some Beastly Machines. After riding Shot gun my sense's have never been that stimulated! Anyways.... I have just a few questions to start out with...1. Does anyone have an idea what I would have to do to make my 318i USA Worthy. If it cost quite a bit i might just hold off on "GETTING HER DONE!", but at the Price I'm paying, It I just might be worthy.2. If I plan on modding it over here, will these sponsored Preformance part Detailors ship to FPO AE adress's oversea's. If this is possible then I'm going to have one nice looking E36 over here in Europe.Again i would Apreciate any help with these area's.Thanx......Luis

Not to come off in a bad way, but seriously, why not buy an E36 M3 from over there to import. It just seems that with all the hassle of shipping and importing, you can buy a 318i here. Plus, with all of the money you would spend modding the 318, it's just not worth it. You would have to spend thousands upon thousands just to get close to the M3 in power. Plus, any Euro E36 M3 you import here in the US would be worth huge $$$$$$$$$$. You would have a one of a kind car.

Deffinatly makes sence to go out and see if i can find an M3 to ship back. That would be pretty cool if i could find one at my cash flow level!!! Unfortunatly the military doesn't pay that good when you first start out. Your right about shipping and modding a 318i... to get that bad ass M3 power would be hard/almost impossible without serious SERIOUS modification. I guess i just always wanted to own a BMW and try to see what i could do to make mine unique or at least CLEAN...Thnx for the comment abriadic....

I'm in the army bro and I always thought about going to germany just to bring a bimmer back. Abradic is def. right about getting an M3 but I know how that E-1/E-4 pay can be. Depending on how long your going to be there buy the 318 but don't go too crazy with it. Save your money. Then a few months before you ship back to the states look for a decent M3 and have some money saved. Sell your 318 and if it was a really great deal maybe you won't lose any money when you sell it or even profit and you can use that towards the buying price of the M3. Take out a loan if you have to because trust me when that car is here it will def. pay off. If I'm not mistaken the Navy will ship your car back over here (the army does). Good luck.

Don't waste your time on a 318.
If the NAVY helps with shipping a car to the states, seriously look for a Euro M3.
