How many of you think we need a "Trusted E36 Mechanic" list broken down by region, i.e. West Cost, Mountain, Midwest, and East Coast, perhaps further broken down by North and South regions.
Speciality catagories such as brakes, engine, drivetrain, OBC etc.

It'd be cool. I need a good mechanic in the Chi-town area so this might actually help.

What's best is use one REPLY, and just add to that. When we say a good mechanic, does not have to be ASE Master Tech, just someone who is good at fixing one or more items on Bimmers for a long time, and does not need to be a shop, it could just be a garage at home, but charges reasonable prices, and willing to show how it's done to the member.

I have been wanting something like this before I got my Bimmer. Hey at least bloxsom being in the Bay Area is roughly 4 hours away......it's a start.

If you are in the Cleveland area (North Royalton to be specific) Paint Works on Royalton Road (82) is amazing. I used to work there and we got a ton in. The owner knows his shit for sure and if you need ANYTHING painted perfectly definitely the place to go.

For those that want to be on the list, you have to tell us what you're specializing in and how many cars (not yours) you have worked on.
I'll compile a list and will ask the MOD to post it as a Sticky.
My suggestion is.. BE HONEST. Working on the same car such as one you own for 10x does not constitute working on a car 10x... get the picture.

You need something special done? I could possibly help. No certification, but I did everything in my sig by myself (except for some heavy lifting ;)).
In Ventura County (Thousand Oaks/Camarillo) and also in Granada Hills a lot (have a garage there), not too far from LA.

I'd be up for having a UK one. You got to hear some of the shit my mechanic has told me;
Brake dust shields are a must, the disks will get damaged without them
Taking out the battery will reset the DME, and I've got to get it reprogrammed

Wow, if you guys in CA are serious, we could work out a price! If your seriously interested send me a pm. We will work out a time for you to stop by. The day before you will give me a list of what you want done, I will get you a price on Bmw oem parts, or you could bring what ever you want for me to install. We will work out labor charges depending on what it is. I work out of my garage, have air compressor tools, a hydraulic press next door and access to ALL Bmw special tools. I have been working on Bmw's since I was 15....
I am almost 19 now. As far as Bmw series I have worked on, to many to list.
Just on my own e36 I have swapped an entire 1998 M3 drive train into it. Short shifter kit. Diff support bracket. M3 brake swap, Full suspension over haul. (springs, shocks RTAB, Lower control arms etc.) I have dropped the front sub-frame, lifted the motor up, and welded the oil pump nut. For the interior, I have swapped and redone my interior with M3 interior. I have also replaced the heater core. I have installed a RMS v1 supercharger kit. (just installed the other day) I am now in the process of rebuilding my head, lapping the valves, new head gasket set. I also do motor swaps! On my car I installed a s52 and converted it back to obd1 so I had to swap the old 325 wiring on to the s52 block. (I will also be doing a s50 swap in my friend 318ti next week!)I also have had Loads of time with diagnosing problems. I have more info to tell you as far as my experience goes that I can't discuss on here. If you would like to know more, send me a pm and we can talk over the phone.
If your still interested, just shoot me a pm and ask me a few questions about my self or if you cant figure something out with your car i would love to help. Wondering on price? Send me a pm with a list of parts and what you want installed and I will be able to get you a price!
Thanks
Chris

I think what would work best, is if we get a sticky and have someone edit it when we get new info. Broken down by major cities sort of like this:
Chicago
-----------------
location:
contact info:
experience:
This way, if we get a nice list going, we can get someone to compile it and you just have to get to the sticky and find the city your looking for. I know there's so many bmw's in california, but it doesn't pwn the rest of the usa so we could use a list like this for every city. The bigger the list the better.

This would be very useful. IMO it's important that mechanics on this list can do
pre-buying inspections. So if you're buying a car from another area, you can just go to the closest trusted mechanic and have the car checked before deciding on buying.

For the West Coast/Bay Area, a very trusted BMW mechanic shop is:
Palo Alto Bimmer
Milenko "Mike" Dugandzic
799 Alma St
Palo Alto, CA 94301
Contact: (650) 325-3818
Great guy, tells you what needs priority. Wish i could start a little business like him. He also buys and rebuilds BMW then sells them. Hes got so many bimmers sitting out on his lot.

Precision Motorwerks in Seattle has done great work on my car. They are the most organized mechanics I have ever seen. They only work on BMW's and Volvo's and have a separate garage and mechanic for each... So, the BMW guy only works on BMW's and the Volvo guy only works on Volvo's.
They can also do buyer's inspections... As thourough as you want to pay for.
Everytime I have gone there, they have taken me out into the shop to show my car and what needs to be done to it. They will often take me under the car while it's up on lifts to show me stuff. It's great... I never feel like they are making me replace something for no reason.
Additionally, they have talked me out of replacing parts, that I would have paid them to install, because they didn't think it would provide me with enough benefit for the money. That's an honest mechanic right there.
Precision Motorwerks for the win.

Barthal Motor Werke in Chatsworth California. The best place if your are in the Valley. Even if your closer to LA its worth the drive. Professional, yet still is a small shop. Good prices but even better work. Recommend to everyone!.
