Ok, so I had contemplated selling my ’97 540 sport a while ago but decided to hold on to it in hopes of repairing it, but now it has to go.

95K miles
Green on Tan
6 speed
Navigation

It is a sport/premium, so it has heated seats, steering wheel, home link, etc.

Unfortunately it is in need of a new motor or a rebuild. The exact cause is sort of a mystery. Essentially 3 of the 8 pistons are toast. Long story short (I can give you the long one if you really want to know) the car had low compression on I believe the 5, 6, 7 cylinders…in the 140’s. The rest were 210 or close to it. When the shop removed the head, they said you could physically move the pistons around inside of the cylinder bores. The best they could tell the car sustained no head damage, But clearly something went wrong.

The engine is still broken down (drivers side head is off) but everything is included and is currently in the trunk of the car.

Other than that, the car is clean, a few chips and scratches as you would expect on a car this age. I have more pictures of the car I can send to anyone that is interested. Also I though I should note the reason for the difference in the stance of the car is because of the parts in the trunk.

I’m looking to get $5000 for it as it sits. The car is located in eastern North Carolina.

Please feel free E-mail or PM me with any questions you might have. Thanks.

unfortunately no, I don't want to part the car out because I don't have the time or space to do so.

Any estimates on what the repair costs would be to have a good indy shop fix it? How are the rest of the car's mechanicals? Is everything else in working order? If someone could get this fixed for less than 5K you would have yourself a sweet ride.

Well as far as the rest of the cars mechs. are concerned they were, and thus should still be in perfect working order. The car was still drivable when the damage occured I'm sure everything else (water pump, alt. transmission, etc.) should be fine. All the electricals, both inside and out were working.

I'm not sure how much it would cost to rebuild and resleve the motor. I was going to just drop in a used motor which can be had for $3000-$3500 depending on mileage. I've been told to remove and reinstall the motor is about 30hrs...so its highly dependant on labor rate. I think it COULD be done for about 5K, like alot of things it could come down to who or what you know and what you have access to.

Feel free to PM or email me with any additional questions..Thanks
