I have a '96 328iS and a '97 328i. Both had CEL's. I just replaced the manifold O2 sensors in the 328i because it showed a slow response code when I checked it at Autozone. I just got a Scanguage and cleared the codes, now it's fine.
I checked the codes in my iS and it shows P0420 and P0430. I believe these mean the cats or downstream O2 sensors aren't functioning properly. I haven't cleared them and driven the car again, yet. The car has 86k on it.
Now the question. The CEL in the 328is has been intermittent. I noticed that when CEL was on, the car was a dog until it hit 2700RPM or so like the vanos wasn't working. When CEL was off it would drive like it should. I mean the difference was OBVIOUS. It would even idle differently and snapping the throttle would barely get the revs to jump without a load. Would the above codes result in a loss of power in the low RPM band?
I'll clear the codes and check again today.
