View Full Version : ok...weird sound coming from under the back of the car when im turning at slow speeds
ok so whenever im driving at slow speeds (like at the mall) and im turning i hear something that sounds like the back tires are rubbing in the wheel wells but theres no way that they can be rubbing because i have the stock tire and rim setup. i dont know what it could be. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
i drive a 1995 M3 if that helps
thanks

Might be the clutches in differential.
At 37k, mine had a weird sound/feel at low speed/hard turns (parking lots).
Draining and a fill of Red Line and additive it's happy.:awink:

change your diff fluid.

There are a variety of LSD additives that are designed to fix excessive slipping/grinding in the diff.
Although many that you may find at the auto parts store may be perfectly fine, I would suggest stopping at a Chevrolet dealer. There is a GM-approved LSD additive designed for Corvettes that works very well. This web site allows you to order it online:

Here are examples of aftermarket brands:

Hope that helps!

can you point us in the right direction about how to change the fluid? ( mine has that sound and probably needs it as well)

From the E36 M3 FAQ:

Be forewarned you will probably need to buy a short profile allen socket to get the fill and drain plugs in and out.
i used redline 75w90 and my noise is *much* reduced, though I am intrigued by what Rob has to say about using the corvette diff fluid. Rob, by the way, I finally got your stage II flywheel in with the 6-speed Getrag... i'll have to tell you about it.
cheers,

It could be your bearings...
