I just wanted to share this pic with you guys to remind you to replace your expansion tank. Mine exploded while in grid at an autox last weekend. I didn't really remember replacing it since I've owned the car (5 years). Upon further inspection I discovered that it was the original expansion tank installed in my car (7/94). :rofl

I was just idling, when I heard a ridiculously loud "POP!". I immediately shut the car off, so it didn't get a chance to heat up. Within an hour or so I had my replacement parts installed and was back on the track. :redspot

love to hear it, don't let recyclable BMW parts hold you down. Keep being an auto-x junkie.

You guys are scaring me!
My tank looks like yours it might be original!
It's in the 90's here in SoCal (yea right as in over 90F today).
Everytime I fix something on this stinking car, there is something ealse to be concerned about. I will drive the green bitch tomorrow and check out that fan exchange mod! I will also consider a nice $45 Ebay tank! I could have blown that paypal money on a $40 CAI, or a $45 chip! :lol

If it's not broken, it dam well will and at the worst possible time!

All this and I starting to get a real hard on for a M3:evil2

M3's should have the same problems. :stickoutt Now, everything is my cooling system is new, including my aluminum radiator. :buttrock I'm not upset at all, it was a super easy fix. And just in time for the summer months.

Mine is leaking at the seal at the bottom. I think it might be time for a new tank

i just replaced my expansion tank after also having it explode as well. this was the only component in the system i hadnt replaced so i highly recommend doing it along with the radiator/waterpump/etc.

No, my dad drove me in his truck to the local German parts place. I also replaced the upper and lower radiator hose and the tiny hose that went from the expansion tank to the radiator. I think I paid $100 for the expansion tank, 3 hoses, 6 hose clamps, 2 huge bottles of pentosin and a gallon of distilled water (still needed more tho).

What is pentosin? I hope that is german for BMW coolant.

My expansion tank also exploded around 2 years ago. I'm not sure if it was the original one or not but as being a plastic part, I think it should be included in every cooling system refresh ;)
