I know I have a slow leak on my power steering hose, but I cannot figure out where to check the level, also does anyone know how long it takes to change the power steering hoses out?

I have the same problem I need to take care of that, how long do you think I can go before I fix that?

To check the level you remove the cap and it has a dip stick on it

the dipstick works the same way as the oil dipstick. there are two lines. make sure the fluid is between both lines. the cap is located behind the alternator before the throttle body deep in the engine bay. make sure the engine is turned off first, of course.
if you need more fluid, just go to the local auto parts store and buy some dexron atf and poor a little in. keep it in your car just in case until you have time to fix it.

So is ps fluid basically maintenance free?

Do a search on this. There's a long, detailed write-up on replacing the ps hoses and clamps.
It's easy enough to do as long as you can get access to a Dremel or something similar to cut the factory clamps away. Replace them with much sturdier, removable standard hose clamps. You might want to look into upgrading the hoses themselves, too. I was able to do it in just a few hours; the delay came with how difficult it was to maneuver the reservoir out (I replaced that too while I was at it), and eventually I needed to find an extra set of hands to help hold things steady while I reattached everything.
