I am having Trouble starting a 1997 318i in the morning. It keeps turning over without starting....After a few minutes of trying it starts but its all loaded up & will not hold an idle for about 1 minute then it is fine...It will start no problem after that all day but the next morning same bS!:mad
I already replaced the temp sensor on the head, The coil, plugs & wires. I had a multiple misfire code so I did the tune up...light is still off but morning starting issue is bad still. I also replaced the cat, muffler & both 02 sensors a few months ago so it cant be that....but I did have a low catalyst effeciency code with the misfire codes? I also sprayed carb cleaner on everything (vaccume, intake & air box) while it was running & did not hear any change in idle so I doubt its a vaccume leak.
Should I replace the temp sender on the radiator also? I was told it just runs the guage?
I am thinking its the injectors leaking down...I did remove the plugs & they are all burning fine?:help

Pull a plug in the morning before you start it and see if it is coated in fuel. That should help see if the injectors are leaking.

Hi there!
I have a similar problem. Mine is a 97 318IS and it has a lot of problem starting in the morning especially when it's cold. There were days when it actually failed to start and I had to take the bus. It's not cured yet, but I have found some things that may help:
Use low octane fuel. I used to fill it up with the highest octane fuel I could find, but that seems to work against cold starting in the morning.
Use the fuel line antifreeze (if you live in a cold area). I have suspicions that the fuel line is freezing and/or the fuel pump is getting sticky because of the cold (again, this would not apply if you don't live in a cold area).
With the two things above, my car has yet to fail to start, but it still has some difficulty starting in the morning when it's less then freezing.
Hope that helped..

If the fuel pump was weak u would have issues at high revs when the engine was under load(when the engine needs most fuel). Is it a 16 valve DOHC engine? Is the disa valve ok? Its on top of the inlet manifold
