Will an M3 tranny bolt up to a M42?

A buddy of mine has an e36 M3 tranny sitting in his garage and its not being used. I think its a ZF. Anywho, I can pick it up for pretty cheap. My question is will it bolt up to an M42 and fit in my 95' 318is? And what mods would I be required to do.

yep, it should fit fine and you shouldn't need to modify anything unless your 318is is and automatic.
