View Full Version : What clutch to get and where?
Hi All,
Well... I need to get a new clutch and I'm wondering which I should get? I won't be seeing over 400hp any time soon so just considering spirited driving and 20-30% track driving. Who has the best deal?
Lastely should I go with a light weight flywheel? I like the idea of better rev matching and would like the faster accelaration but I'd like to avoid the associated chattering, if possible.
Advice? Opinions?
Thanks,
Roman

I was thinking about going with UUC's lighter flywheel/ E34 M5 clutch combo whenever my car needs the clutch replaced. In my mind if the clutch was designed to support 70 more horsepower stock than the M3 clutch, it's gotta be at least a little more durable! That plus the fact that the clutch is pretty cheap kinda seals it for me.

stock clutch is fine for n/a power, the sach HD is too much for an n/a car. If I was getting a ltw fly i would look at the uuc stg 2. Using the e34 M5 clutch to quiet chatter, looks like a good kit.
Thanks guys - I saw the UUC stage II flywheel but it seemed to be lighter than their gen I flywheel. Do you know if there will be problems with stalling? How will this 8.5lb affect the harmonic balancing of the engine? Also, what do the E34 clutch kits cost and will there be a need for modifications when fitting the E34 clutch onto an E36? Anyone know?

You won't have any problems with the Stage II UUC lightweight flywheel. It's very well designed. Best flywheel you can buy, IMO. For those following along at home, see: http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/flywheel/index.htm
Regarding a replacement clutch, give the guys at Bimmerworld (www.bimmerworld.com) a call. The Bimmerworld Clutchmaster kits are as good as they get, and they've got different priced solutions based on how serious you want to get. They've got a couple of very good solutions at a very reasonable price, and can talk to you about exactly what you need based on your current and future modifications. Actually it's $339.37, the E36 M3 kit is $241.40.

There's very little difference between the 3.0L and 3.2L clutches, the only parts that changed are the pressure plate and the release fork. Clamping force is pretty much unchanged, but the 3.2L pressure plate is supposed to have a slightly lighter pedal effort.
