I don't see why not as long as the 18" wheel messures exactly 18" from edge to edge the 235/40/17 tire will fit.

I thought for sure that something got screwed up in the wording of the thread title, no, it didn't and now I feel dumber having read the thread and even dumber since I was compelled to reply...
Your answer is no, it will not fit...

This must be the dumbest car-related question I've ever read. I pity the OP if they were serious.
That's like asking "Will my 6 fot wide car fit through a 5 foot wide tunnel?"

Tires can only be stretched in width, not in diameter.
Think about it this way: if the tire could expand an entire inch to squeeze onto a larger wheel, it would probably expand enough to make it completely unsafe on the correctly sized wheel.

My post is correct. If the OP messured his wheel from edge to edge and it is 18" his tire will fit.

How about not ever SAFE. Strtch that tire and then take a nice 60mph sweeper and then call the skid truck

You wouldnt even be able to fit the tire over the top to seal the bead of the tire to the lip. Stretching tires is hard enough.

I know 1" sounds very small different, but for a tyre...it is a very big different, mate. No way you are going to strecth it in.
