I picked up a set a style 5's and im planning to polish the lips by myself.
I think it would be easier if i just took the wheels apart.
Does anyone know what i need to tourque the bolts at when i put the wheels back together?

TIA

I'm in the process of refinishing my style 5's and I can attest that taking the wheels apart will definitely give you better results, but be prepared to spend about 10-15hrs per wheel if you want to do it right.

Initially, I was unable to remove the centre casting after removing the 35 fasteners on each 17" wheel, but after slowly and evenly heating the bolt ring on the outer casting with a propane torch the center casting fell out on its own. I can't stress enough taking your time with applying the heat ( approximately 5-10 minutes per wheel).

I am also interested in obtaining the proper torque setting for the fasteners. I have found some information by googling vortex forums, but the information was more geared to BBS RS wheels used on VW Golfs'.

I have posted some additional info if you are interested under the thread "refinishing style 5 wheels" over the past two days.

Did you use a drill or are you doing them by hand?

The web site that has the information relating to to the BBS RS wheels is VWvortex.

Why wouldn't you just buy new bolts? I thought that's what you are supposed to do anyway?
