That is the question.

I'm trying to compile a list of advantages for each. Your input is welcome, but let's try and keep the purist comments out of it. By that I mean simply the posts that say "if it isn't BMW then it shouldn't go in a BMW". If you have reasons why you don't like a V8 in an e36, state the reasons. I appreciate any and all input! I'll edit the list when I see good thoughts.

Advantages to the Twin Screw:
Forced induction is fun
Still using BMW engine, which is cool
PERFECT torque curve, linear power
Sophisticated smoothness in comparison to an american V8
most stock electronics stay in-tact
Can use stock exhaust system

Advantages to the LS6 (last gen Corvette Z06 motor):
more power than TSSC, and naturally aspirated and stock
MUCH more power potential
unique
the tranny that comes with it is a 6 speed, and far less expensive than a BMW 6spd
Lighter and shorter than an inline six, thus lower center of gravity, and closer to the center of the car.
American V8 sound coming out of a small german "luxery" car.

I'm missing a TON of stuff I'm sure. Thoughts? Additions?

You will spend more on an LSx swap, and you will kill your resale. Other than that the LSx wins basically any way you look at it :buttrock

This is why I have this thread - because both have their distinct advantages.

So people ask, "why not an LS6 with F/I?"

Quite simply because I want it to be as reliable as possible, and I'm not sure I'm going to be wanting that much more power than an e39 M5 in my little e36. I'm going to have enough trouble getting traction as it is.

dude, LSx engines luv FI and can be very reliable.....but at the same time, with a little work you can have a 500whp+ NA monster, thats the beauty of these engines, that can handle almost anything you throw at them.....

Also, are you going to do it or are you going to have a shop do it? I think that plays a large roll in deciding. If you are going to do it you have to take into consideration the time factor of each. The LS6 swap is going to take you awhile, but you will be very happy with the end result and have a great time along the way.

Well, I'm on LS1tech now. The thing is, with 400hp and 400ftlb, I'm going to have my hands full enough with traction issues. This is going to be a sleeper/DD, and FI would make it impossible to drive daily safely.

Is the car going to be an everyday driver with a bit of a bang or a pure racing machine? If it is going to be an everyday car, twin screw would prolong the engine life due to lower compression. If you are going to race the beast, go with the LS6 swap, it will add much needed torque.

The Twin-Screws are very reliable and the power is a lot of fun...
to me it truly feels at home in the E36... and you still get that sleeper factor....
just ask the guy with the Carrera S that got beat by a 10 year old M3!!! hehehe

so you're saying that adding a Twin Screw will lower compression?and will definately be more reliable than an NA LS6....hhmm, very interesting....

Seriously, though - what are your reasonings? Aside from labour time, there is literally no advantage to the TSSC over the LS6, save the purist argument.

Well im a perfectionist, the only reason i would do the SC is because its the bmw engine, i couldn't bear to see another companys motor in my bmw.

Well, objectively, you're a purist. Peoples' opinions of perfect differ, so while you're a perfectionist per your definition, in this particular case, you wouldn't be in mine.

From a tidiness factor I'm leaning to the twinscrew. I'm not convinced I can find someone to do a clean job of the wiring harness and get all of my electrical working properly again. Adding the Twinscrew seems a lot easier. Of course I'm also not convinced an e36 needs 400 hp / 400 foot pounds to shred the tiresj.

That, my friend, depends entirely on what tires you have on said e36.
