The dolly is the one that the front tires go up on and the rears ride the street.

The exhaust might get close to the ground if you hit a bump or are on a hill. Just put some skateboards under the rears to keep it level.

roll the front wheels, not the back.

I do not think they'd rent it to you for an M3... and being RWD, pretty sure you'd have to drop the exhaust and disconnect the driveshaft.

Put the rear into the tow dolley and lock the front wheels. Remove your front bumper and it should be fine. Your liners will rub though. imo! Or rent the whole car dolley. It is only about 20 or 30 more.

I'd hook it up from the front and use those carriers with small wheels on the rear (I'm not sure how they're called but that's what they use when they tow a car with the ebrake on).
Actually I would not, I would never U D tow an E36.

Spend the extra money and get the whole car tow. I towed mine from VA to OK last June and did not use the dolly.
If you towed rear up, you have to remove the bumper. If you tow front up, you have to disconnect the drive shaft and your exhaust will rub. Or you get the extra carrier wheels like people mentioned. In the end, better to just get the full size tow.

I cant find a transport trailer,Belive me,I would spring for the extra 10 bucks!! 49$ the dollys 39$
If you look at how high the ramp actually is..The front tires will be off the ground about 4-6 inches max
Uhauls directory says its ok w/dolly and a big truck.
does ayone have any actual experience?
And what do you mean liners will rub??
Thanks

There are legitimate concerns about internal differential wear from running with the fluid shifted to the back of the diff housing.
I just went to www.uhaul.com to compare rates between the dolly and full trailer... doesn't seem to make much sense to use a dolly if you have a capable tow vehicle:

I thought about the diferential,But if you look at the cover, theres a slot for the ring to go into exactly for that uphill purpose, not a concern....
Maybe I best wait for a trailer instead of the dolly. An ounce of prevention bla bla bla......Right?

seriously dont dolly the car. Unless you dont care about your car. Flatbed or get the full auto tow thing that is pictured above.

Then pay for a flatbed tow. Don't tow the car like if it was a FWD, a lot can happen if you do that.

I've been told my BMW mechanics that a BMW should NEVER be towed like that, you need a flatbed.
