are gas tanks hard to find?

A buddy of mine's mom has a 1991 521i, and the gas tank ruptured. The mechanic is saying they can't find one, are these tanks really that hard to find? Can anyone point me to somewhere that might have these? (I tried doing a search on this forum but came up empty)

Shipping might be the killer but you should hit up the BMW parts and recyclers like:

Those are just a few and you might have a local salvage that deals in BMWs so do some local searches.
