Post pics of cars that are slammed on Bilstein PSS 9's.
They advertise them for 1.75" drop max, which I herd/think is underrated??

From what I remember from driving an E46 M3 on PSS9s, I thought they were way too soft. I was kinda hammering on it, too, and they just didn't feel very good to me.

I have mine set on the stiffest setting; they are very streetable IMO. I'd like to upgrade to TCKline coilovers next.

I can agree here. They are stiff, but very streetable.
Its a good combo.
I would like some more stiffness though, but thats because my car sees alot of track time.

Thanks guys! I just talked to bilsteins and the spring rate on the M3 kit is 460lbs front 685lbs rear (progressive spring on the rear) Sounds like a solid kit, I wouldnt exacly call it soft with these spring rates, might be different for non-m models. They sad the max lowering on the front is 30mm = 1.18" and 20mm on the rear.
Have you guys had trouble aligning the car right, with this kit? When you have the car slammed?
I know with my H&R kit I could never get a proper alignment in the front from how low it is.
Are all of you guys running spacers? Not sure if I will need spacers with a 19x8 +32mm offset 235/30 front.
Excidium28
02-15-2007, 02:18 PM
For the non-m models the spring rate is a lil softer. 400lbs front 425lbs rear

Front could go down another 6 threads, and rears are all the way down. I'd have to remove the perch for them to go any lower.
Front only has 6cm (2.5") of clearance due to the reiger bumper. If I put the dtm splitter on it, I'd never get up a curb. Even on an angle.

Nice car! Hows your alignment? You getting even tread ware with the car being that low?
Nice car! Hows your alignment? You getting even tread ware with the car being that low?
Running falken451's. Alignment was no problem. My camber (-2.5) is aggressive, but the toe is fine. I haven't noticed any uneven wear at all. My rears are wearing quicker than the fronts, so I just rotate them as much as I can.
Right now, the rear isn't tucking rim, but the entire tire is tucked.
Ride quality is fine. As with everyone else, one day I'd like to go to stiffer springs, but this is a nice compromise. I grimace whenever I go over train tracks, or hit rough patches of road though.

Stiffer springs? ..... Looking at the spring rate on PSS9's they dont look like they're anything close to soft compared to other kits.
H&R coilovers 385lbs front 365lbs rear
H&R race springs 400lbs front 515lbs rear
JIC Magic C/O 440lbs front 640lbs rear
TEIN Basic C/O 448 front 448lbs rear
TEIN SS-P 504lbs front 532lbs rear
Bilsteins PSS9 M model 460lbs front 685lbs progressive rear

Nice thread! I'm wondering about a suspension change myself. I didn't even know they made PSS9s for the e36 M3. I thought it was just non-M models. Maybe I should keep my H&R coilovers just so I get more traction since they are soft. :dunno However a much stiffer rate would make it easier to handle spinning tires in 4th and 5th. :)

When the kit first came out, it was only for 3-series, you could of modified it to fit an M3, my buddy did that, he gave me a ride tonight on the softest setting and it was nice, definitely softer than my H&R race springs.
But they make a kit for an M3 now.

10mm spacer on stock 17" M3 rims???? The kit was designed around stock wheels, so you shouldnt need spacers on stock wheels?
Even though the BBS springs run a lil bigger, compared to like a ground control spring.

So am I going to be the first guy with JIC FLTA2s RS For my E36 M3.
My input like excidium already knows. We have or have owned PSS9s, HKS, Tein - flex type, Super Street, Drift Spec , D2s , H@R , Tanabe , Cusco I think thats all so far. Most of these are to soft, Shitty rebound, Poor quality( Rust ) or have broken because of demanding driving.
I have a set of FLTA2s on my 98 240sx That was my Street/Drift Car but I hit a wall doing a drift demo in Edmonton Canada, Coilovers Came out ok. But these work perfect for a capable slammed street/track car. Also there on our R32 Skyline and another employees S13.
These Coilovers Hands down have the best Sport Street Setup, that you can drive hard on the street or take to the track and be capable on the track.
Customer Service is awesome if you have a problem they can get your strut or struts rebuilt within a couple of weeks and you are back on the road sooner if you need. Custom Valveing no problem took me 2 days and the coilovers were shipped out.
I have taken every coilover off of my cars and put JICs on for one reason and that because they work. But this is my oppinion since this seems to be the debate I will keep you updated on my coilover and exaust coming from Cross-NA.
http://www.cross-na.com/images/products/P-84-1.jpg
For the price range they are the only Reverse Mono Tube Design I Can think of.

I posted this in the E36 M3 forum but thought I post it here since, most of the people that replied to this tread own a set of PSS9's
When ever im on a bumpy road, I hear some chatter like a loose bolt and a washer bouncing around, and it sounds like its coming from the rear drivers wheel.
I went under, checked all the bolts, checked the strut bolts, and came to the conclusion that its the huge washer inside the rubber boot on the bilstein shock that keeps it from bottoming out. Any of you experiencing the same problem?

I am always around that area as my buddy (drives a 97 silver m3) lives there, and my other friends live downtown. Congrats on the new place, normal heights is nice. You pfff blaze?
BTW- I need to lower my rear a bit, but the perches are sitting on bottom. Kinda hard to get to. Any suggestions? Is it possible to put the perch on top of the spring as to make it easier to adjust?
Nah I don't.
Bronx pizza ? Thanks, I'm pretty happy with the new place, I used to live way out there in east county, was getting annoying. Too far.
For the rear what I did is just remove the perches. They are easy to reach if you just lift the rear and undo the bottom shock bolts. IIRC the design of the thing doesn't allow you to put them on top. It would have been nice though.

The front has plenty of clearance and I don't scrape on anything. :dunno
If I go lower, it will be for shows only, but seeing as how I plan on doing a few shows next year, haha, it will see more slammage.

nice shots... I currently have Bilstein Sport shocks with H&R Race springs setup... I also, have a brand new set up PSS9s waiting to be installed. the slammed PSS9s looks pretty identical to my setup i think... does anyone know if the PSS9s get lower then bilsteins shocks on h&r race springs?
Thats exactly what I had before I got the PSS9's, H&R springs with bilstein sport shocks, and my rear was actually lower than PSS9's maxed out, you could go lower than H&R race springs on the front. And the H&R springs are about 1"- 1 1/2" taller than PSS9 springs.
I kind of wish I went with Tein SS-P (assuming they could go lower than PSS9's on the rear) The only way to go lower is to remove the spring perches.
I just set my suspension to softest (9) after having it on (4) .. very nice, even my girl noticed a difference.
This could be a dumb question, but could I remove only 1 spring pearch, that would lower it about .25"+ which should be perfect.
How much lower is your car after removing both spring perches.

Does anyone know how //Mcabrio (sp) dumped his car so low on PSS9's?

So for the record .. yes you can remove only one springs pearch which lowers the car for aonther 1/3" on the rear
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l125/excidium28/springperch.jpg
So 1/3" lower on the rear than how it was (sig)

I would think you could remove both perches if you really wanted, could you not?
Absolutely, I don't run perches on both rear springs.

I can run both sets of wheels without rear spacers and plan to as soon as I get my Lug nuts in. The car will be lower next year.

pss9's coming around christmas time. soon after I will have all new bushings ready to go in the car. Spring time will be fun.
One question. For now I'd only like 1.5 inch F and 1 inch R drop. How do I tell before installing them around what would be a good setting? How hard is it to change the ride height once installed? Is it necessary to get an alignment done after changing the ride height from say 1 inch drop to 1.25 inch?

Front could go down another 6 threads, and rears are all the way down. I'd have to remove the perch for them to go any lower.
Front only has 6cm (2.5") of clearance due to the reiger bumper. If I put the dtm splitter on it, I'd never get up a curb. Even on an angle.
What kind of rims ?

Hate to bump an old thread, but do you need spacers up front? I'm running 19x8.5 ET35 w/ 225/35/19 tires, I don't think I can run a spacer out front! Please, please tell me this wheel setup works with the PSS/9!

You will need a spacer to clear the coilover strut. Atleast 15mm. Which means your wheel is going to stick out.
Solution1: Mad neg. camber, stretch, roll and pull.
Solution2: Get rid of 19x9.5, theres no need for that on an E36. Unless they are like super duper baller wheels.

It's 19x8.5 front, only 9.5 in the rear. BBS CH by the way...
edit: fixed my previous post. It's 19x8.5F and 19x9.5R, and as far as I understand the spacers are needed for the fronts. Now I'm also hearing that it's the M3s that have problems with front clearance moreso than the non-M E36s...?

So the shop that installed my coilovers on the rear they didnt bolt the cup that holds the spring in they just put the bolt in there and let it sit, I had that taken out and bolted it in from the other side .. Not sure how much I gained but can definitely go lower.

Offset is key.
The minimum offset for the front on PSS9's (on 18's atleast, should be the same on 19's) is et33 for an 8.5" wheel (I'll double check that here in a minute). The minimum offset for the rears is et48-ish for a 9.5" wheel.
I'm running 18x8.5 et38's up front with a 5mm spacer, and 18x9.5's et48 out back.
