Today i was driving back from school, and i spotted an E34 520i. WTF? I think i know my E34 models pretty well, and i dont think a 520i was offered in the US. Heres the kicker, it was a wide grill, and had painted lowers, so it must have been a 95 model. Only 1 exhaust tip also. Was this car imported?

I think those were in austrailia? Makes me want to bagde me car as a 518.

probably imported, I remember a long time reading about a guy who moved here from europe and took his car (e34 520i) with him and then found out the kind of hassle it turned out to be.

I have no idea why someone would import a 520i. I seem to recall a figure of something like 12 grand to import and federalize a car. 12 grand can get you an M5, a really nice 540i/6, or a mint-condition 525i and several 525i parts cars. Even if you were really attached to the...M20B20? (not sure what's in a 520i), it'd be cheaper to get another E34 with a trashed engine, and swap in the 2-liter from some 3-series.

A 518i badge belongs on something like a supercharged 540i/6 with bottlecaps.

Most likely though it's just a rebadged 525/530/540 though. Single exhaust pipe though...

That was my first thought, that the car was rebadged, or badged incorrectly. But the fact that it only had one pipe, made me wonder.

i see 10 520i's a day, they are awful. no power out of a good motor (M50 based) they only have one exhaust tip so it could be a real 520i. they aren't worth a second look though

Do any aftermarket mufflers have one non-huge tip?

Yes, lol. I've got a skinny supersprint oval exhaust.

Looks kinda stupid coming out of the big hole in the fibreglass bodykit :shifty

But PO claimed it put out the right back pressure, thats my excuse for being too lazy to change it anyway.

Thats probably a stock 520i. M50 in them puts out a mega slow 150bhp, they still look good though. They're probably the most common e34's we get here in the UK.
