View Full Version : LTW flywheel no longer chatters... Eurosport pulleys involved?

So half a year ago, I got a Fidanza LTW flywheel with Sachs clutch when my stock clutch started slipping. At the same time, I had Eurosport underdrive pulleys installed. I've always had this strange grinding-ish noise on deceleration past ~3k rpm that I never had before, but that's another issue. I had read in another recent thread that having a LTW FW and aftermarket pulleys together was a bad combination? My flywheel no longer chatters like it used to, at all, which is something that I'd never heard of before. I was curious if something got tweaked because of the combination and my flywheel isn't 100% right?

Thanks guys.

As far as I know its a badcombination because you loose both of your harmonic dampeners by going with a lightened flywheel AND lightened crankpulley. Wont take long to rattle the engine apart at this point.

He does not have a lightened/removed crankshaft pulley harmonic dampener.

Not really sure, alot of people run lightweight flywheels with underdrive pulleys. Im sure they have a little rougher idle compared to stock but I dont remember reading anything about rubbing.

The crank pulley + lwfw is what you want to stay away from. UDP's + LWFW is no problem.

I have the underdirve pullies and am putting a LTWFW, are you gouys saying that's a bad idea? Are the underdrive pullies the same as a lightened crankshat pully?

Thanks,

It's not a problem if you're not going to underdrive the crank pulley.

questions for some that have added the pullies after the ltw.Did the engine have rough spots from idle to 1.2k and then again @ like 2k ish?

I can remember my engine being very smooth from idle to redline but I did the pullies and the flywheel at the same time so I dont know if the pullies added any vibrations.

also did a few other suspention mods so IM sure they all added up.

If I can get my car smoother with going back to the old pullies I might do that.2hp is not worth the chatter my car makes

My car is very senetive to chatter and I think the pullies have made it worse. If I open the door or turn on the lights, basically any load on the alteranter will make it chatter at idle and turning the AC on makes my car sound like a disel lol

the crank shaft pulley drives other/aux. pulleys (alternator, water pump, a/c).

the harmonic dampener is in the crank shaft pulley. removing the harmonic dampener is bad (especially on an inline engine). on a v engine, maybe ok.

lightweight flywheel = :alright

lightweight flywheel w/ underdriven aux. pulleys = :buttrock

lightweight flywheel w/ underdriven crankshaft pulley = :cashwalle :bawling

Thanks for the comments guys. I knew you couldn't pair up a LTW flywheel with a crank pulley but I recently heard a LTW FW was also bad with underdriven aux. pulleys. Apparently, that's not the case.

But I'm still curious why my LTW flywheel doesn't chatter anymore? Zero chatter.

Weather is cold so you don't have the AC on?
Weather is cold so trans fluid is thicker and damps chatter?
Clutch bedded in differently now?

I have the same setup... (Fidanza Flywheel with Eurosport Pulleys) and it rattles and makes noise too. I have been trying to rectify the problem with possibly running a sprung hub clutch but i cant figure out what sprung hub clutch to run...

Does anyone know if this will cause any long term damage or will it just be noisier???

Just noise and you can reduce it by running a heavier trans fluid or bumping the idle RPM with software. We do have a spring hub clutch that fits the flywheel you own for about $600 - Clutchmasters performance clutch.

will the spring hub clutch help quiet it down???
