I suspect the the Mini prices are going to go through the roof in a year or too and the intro price gives in to the reality of the demand and the BMW name.

This is what happened to the Miatta and the Xterra. BOTH of those cars were SPECIFICALLY designed and marketed to be nice, "inexpensive" fun cars that which created a rave reviews and a big demand (not to mention HUGE profits due to price gouging).

Remember how Miata was featured to come out as like a 14k car and then they started taking orders, by the time the car hit the streets it was nearly DOUBLE that price??? OR when the Xterra was supposed to be a "real offroad SUV on a real persons budget". It came out well equipted at only 17k, then it won EVERY award it could then the next year the price went up about 10K :(

Anyway I see the new mini pricing as a lost leader to get the cars out of the showroom and into the public eye, within 2 years, BMW is going to jack us up to the tune of at least 10K more :( Of course I predict it will have BMW badging at that point too to make people feel that its worth the extra 10k+ increase

I wnat one bad but by the time I can get a new car, I KNOW it will be through the roof!

Well when i bought my car it came out to 22k, but that was a mistake since i almost every single option, but the actualy price on my car is 27k, i can actually sell my car now and make a profit, but since its a lease blah,so i cant...but yeah i head the same thing, i head by the end of this year the miniS will be around 30k...

Hell of a fun car to drive. People freakout when I'm taking turns and not even tapping the breaks. I can get sideways at will now and feel in total control of the car.

Hell yeah i hear what your saying, i used to have a crx so i'm used to small cars, and i love auto X here so when i took the mini to an event, everyone was taking a crap to see how well these cars move...Also duno about you guys but down here in miami theres like only 6 minis, so everytime i take out the car i atleast get 4 compliments from people...and when i go out i get free parking because they want the mini in the front of places to attract people...I really love the perks of having a mini...hehe

There are ALOT more than 6 MINI's. In the big meets that we've had here we've had up to 50 something cars....and there are probably at least twice that. Check out www.floridamini.net that'll let you know about meets and stuff.

We meet weekly on thursdays with a bunch of classic mini guys at Kendall and 127th by the Smart and Final. Its a smaller group that goes to that, but we're trying to expand it. We're planning on heading up to Tower Shops next friday.

While I would love to think that these cars will go up that much, I am afraid that they will become nearly as common as the PT Cruisers. Like CRXs, they are great cars for the $$... (or I think so, I still haven't gotten mine yet!). The Miata, in 1991 was about $18K. In 1999, I bought another one for $23K. Not THAT big of a price increase, btw.

Time will tell. What it is really about is how much you enjoy it. I am not planning on selling the MCS.

They sound like they handle great. I hope to see some Mini's at some of the NCC autocrosses this spring. :)

The one thing (I hope) that will keep ultra-inflation from happening on the MINI is BMW not wanting to pillage sales from their other models. If the 3 series started around 30K, you'd want a MINI to sell for a bit less than that.

Interestingly in 2004 the 1 series is supposed to come out to fit between the 3 & 4 series and the MINI. Hopefully that will keep the MINI prices down.

Also, hopefully, they don't start making the MINI less expensive by using a lot crappier parts or something...
