Does anyone else have any issues getting in and out of their car with the sports seats? I am always rubbing against the side bolsters on enter and exit from the vehicle and I feel I am going to really scuff up the seat....
Anyone have this issue, or is this just a me thing?
Thanks,
-Carl

No, it is certainly not just you!
Here is a funny one for you:
I was on my way home from the gym and I stopped to pick up the WSJ and some coffee. I ran into the shop and the girl gave me my coffee and I went a little further down the road and got the paper. Back in the car I get to my garage, park the car, and see a neighbor who I have been wanting to talk to...my pants fell. No, they did not just slip a little bit down. They fell to the floor...all the way to the floor! I was wearing my workout shorts underneath so it was only funny, not that embarrassing, but still kind of messed up! The buttons on the sides of the break-away sweat pants get knocked loose by the side-bolsters when I get in the car...
Moral of the story:
Do not wear break-aways if you drive a sport package 3-series Coupe!!!
Coolest part:
She had dinner with me that evening...said it was out of pity for pity! I like this girl!
Thanks for pushing the sore spot. 1 month after I got my car a "not so small" person was a passenger in my car. I noticed when they got in that it was a tight squeeze. I had moved the front seat up a bit to fit my daughter's car seat in the back that day and forgot to move it back. Well turns out that this not so small person happens to wear a cell phone clipped on their side. You know where this is going...I ended up with a gash in my side bolster. After fighting off the urge to kill (the only thing that saved him was the thought of never driving my car again) I made an appointment at an auto upholstery place to get it repaired tomorrow. They say no one will notice it when they are done. Worse case they can order the leather and replace the panel. Now I'm the a-hole who asks everyone getting in his car to remove cell phones and sharp objects. In fact, I now try to avoid passengers all together. Naked females are allowed.

+1. I have to move the seat back before I enter the car.

I have had my coupe for three days and am training myself to swing my hips to avoid the bolster. But I am 5' 10" 160 lbs so am flexible enough to do this!

You sure you had both hands on the wheel?

Same here, on day two I learned the "sit and then swivel" move and have done it ever since. Even so, I can see the bolster will be the first thing to show wear. :shifty

Yep, the bolster on these cars is going to be toast in a few years. Also my right shin is digging into the side console, anyone else feel this?

Not as big a deal in a sedan since you have to get past the B-pillar anyway, at least if your tall like I am.

Got the same issues here, I'll have to try the sit and spin maneuver.
I have also noticed that I drag th sole of my shoe along the sill almost every time I get out of the car. It really pisses me off. Normal use should not cause abnormal wear on a new car.

These are all issues with pretty much all of the 3-series coupes. I had these same things with my old E36 328is. The rubber sill gasket eventually got worn and tore in that car from the constant rubbing with the shoes, and had to be replaced. Also the side bolsters leather wore pretty good. But these are not that expensive of parts to get replaced. Just the few things that go along with owning a 3-series coupe I guess.
I just don't want people scuffing up the passenger door on their way out because the door being so big usually cant be fully swung open without hitting a car. I have to warn everyone before hand to watch when they open the door.

I'm not sure how BMW was suppose to design seats that hold you in without side bolsters. Besides, they are an option, no one has to get them.
Both my E36's had the sport seats and they did get a bit warn on the bolster and door side of the seat, but I'll take that over sliding all over the place in a flat bench.

I love the feel of the seats once I'm in the car, especially when going into turns. :shifty

Yes...yes I did! Ha!
I got my seat repaired today. It came out pretty good. What was once a white cut in the leather now looks like a small natural crease. The dyes have not fully cured yet...the color matches perfectly...still a bit on the shiny side. They said that would go away once everything fully dries. If the slight shininess goes away then I will be 100% satisfied.
