Those are interesting.. also new to me. They don't look half bad. I bet if you painted the inside baffle silver they would look even better.
I saw these the other day and thought they looked OK, better then the crystal clear ones anyways. Looks like they would compliment ZKW headlights well.

I've tried the H7 mod.. it rather um.. sucked. It turns it into a low mounted high beam for all intents and purposes... not a very good fog lamp.
late model e30's have the best foglights pretty much ever... the amount of light those throw down low and wide is astonishing.. particularly when brand new. I'd love to somehow mount the guts of those into a e36 housing.

yeah they line up perfect which is why i bought them in the first place. the small lights dont really bother me, but they do not put out much light...ive been thinkin about replacing the bulbs with brighter ones...but i dont really even know what bulbs are in there...lol. i like the way they look lit up, but you can hardly tell they are on from inside the car.

hid fogs are ftw
HID's are the worst foglights ever IMO
in order for your foglights to be effective they need to have a wide spread pattern, and they need to penetrate the fog (ie they need to be yellow).
I'm sorry guys but the only true foglights by definition are french fogs and next to ellipsoids they're pretty much the best lighting mod you can do.

How hard are HID fogs to put in?
not hard at all...OEM fogs use H1 lights...so just buy an H1 hid kit.
however, the hid light is scattered and not focused like it would be if used with a projector.
hence, why i would like to see some hid projector fogs

^ I second that notion, bigger projectors than the eBay ones though.
i did some searching and came up with this
I thought I'd share a few pics of the projector fogs I pieced together for my e36.
I got some so-called euro foglights made by DEPO off ebay because I thought they looked cool, matched the headlights well but that obviously had crap for illumination, which they did. Then I got some small genaric HELLA made projector fogs of ebay, did some dremel hacking, painting, screwing and siliconing everything together- end result, euro headlight-esc H1 fogs. I put lamin-x on them and a set of XTEC 4500k hids in them (I have 5000k in the lowbeams).
I think they look sweet but don't function the best- I made them point down a little bit too much so I'm thinking of taking them apart and removing the shield inside that makes the cutoff and either using them as driving lights if they're too bliding, or hope they point down far enough to not blind everyone. Something to work on and refine but still cool and different.

02-18-2007, 12:41 AM
Thanks - it's slightly older, painted the grills since then and some other things.
I'm really holding off on the fogs with HIDs for a few reasons - the first is that I can't find any Catz HID kits to match my lows, and unfortunately no one uses the same kelvin temp ratings so I'm 100% sure they wouldn't even be remotely close. Also since it's reflected light versus the direct beam in the ellipsoids the color is slightly different too.
Then that blue lamin-x just totally screws things up haha.
edit: actually I just found this website - http://www.brightheadlights-hid.com/Xenon-HID-Catz-Lights-Kits.htm
with the genuine catz kits! So sexah. $641 for the galaxy white H1 is actually less than I paid at the time but it's still pushing it for something like the fogs. Eh. I'm doing a light-revamp in the spring, we'll see what happens then. :)

I got the blue lamin-x if that counts haha. I absolutely LOVE the look when the fogs aren't on, actually cleaned up the whole front of the car. You wouldn't think something as "rice" as film like that would have a positive impact. It's holding up to the chips really well too.

^ Nice!! How come your angels don't look so bright? Is it just the exposure due to the blinding HID's? Or were they warming up? Looks quite nice... in fact I'm heading down towards that route of removing mine..

I had those in my car (1st one in the US)..
here's an old pic of my car with the Hamann Foglight insert- circa '95

Now lets fast forward to the present time..
I took out the foglights when I was designing my bumper. I fused the foglight hole and the brakeduct and made it functional.
Here are some pics..
Passenger side vent is where the air filter sits...

Jon Sibal, is your front bumper a modified Reiger Infinity II? It looks very similar but not exactly the same.

it's a jon sibal bumper :)

haha, yeah I mod the heck out of it so might as well right? j/k
But yeah I started with a rieger infinity1 as they were fiberglass vs infinity2 (ABS). I thought it would be easier to modify a fiberglass but it still took a lot of man hours to get it exactly to my design.

Thats cool!! On your old web site it used to say that the Esquiss flares were modified to be larger, but when you look at yours right next to your friends there doesn't seem to be any difference in width???

Wow, i'm surprised. Someone as well seasoned as yourself not knowing about this?! :confused
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=604990
EEEEeeee36 is currently in the process of fabricating a run of replicas of these ducts. In the group buy section there is a list of about 40 who signed up for these. EEEEeeee36 has had extensive past experience with the making of aftermarket parts for our cars, and once this is complete i'm sure it will be up to the quality that we all expect.

Nothing against EEEEeeee36 but none of his group buys are going anywhere and haven't been for quite some time. I think I signed up for two or three of them and haven't seen any progress in six months or more.
