I have two other vehicles with Homelink and cannot get my 328Xi to accept the code from my opener. This is the Canadian rolling code opener which on my other vehicles I must hold the homelink button down and press the garage door opener every two seconds until the light on the Homelink blinds rapidly. I have done this with the garage remote in front of the mirror behind the mirror etc and no luck.
Is anyone aware of any other procedure I am not aware of?

Go to Homelink website - directions there. Sounds like you are not pressing the Learn button on the opener unit after you've paired the car to it. Gots to do that...

Try this website - it details how to do it. It should work. http://www.homelink.com/home/home.tml

Does the garage opener work for the non digital garage openers too? The click ones?

Thanks you are correct I forgot to mention I had been following through with that step. (pressing the learn button on the Garage door motor unit ) which I had been trying with no success and then returning to the car and pressing the homelink button ... 2 times ..3 times to actuate. My other cars homelink units flash rapidly after the code is learned after which you hit the learn button on the garage door motor and go back to the car and press the unit a couple of times. It seems my issue is the code is not being learned by the BMW homelink unit. I had also gone to the homelink website and followed their instructions. I factory ordered this mirror w/ compass because it was not an option with the premium package on the 328xi. Unless I am still missing something (which I hope is the case) I will have to return to the dealer.

BMW mirror wire harnesses are tricky and platform-unique, so you may need to go back to the dealer.

To illustrate: I have an '04 330i ZHP (performance package). I couldn't order a mirror with Homelink & autodimming with the car order, so after delivery I asked the dealer if I could have a Homelink/auto dim mirror installed. "Yes, on order" and then dealer installed it when it came in. Wire harness plug connected perfectly. But Homelink & auto dim was a no-go. Back to dealer, who then discovered that the ZHP wiring harness to the mirror was short the needed wires for the Homelink & auto dim. Ended up replacing the mirror with original (took months - another story) and installed Homelink in roof panel as separate drill.

YMMV, but you may well have a wiring harness feeding your mirror that connects some functions but doesn't mate with Homelink. Good luck...

Interesting. I'm still kind of ticked that the homelink and compass mirror were not standard in the premium package on a 2007 vehicle. These items have been around for years on Hondas Nissans Chevs etc. I guess I'll get to see how good my dealer is.

Here's what I do with both our BMW's.

Press and hold both the original remote button and the homelink button until the light blinks rapidly. Keep the original remote close to the mirror while doing this step.

Then press the learn button.

Then quickly get back to the homelink and press the button 2-5 times until the garage light flashes. The next time should open/close the door.

Programed two cars with two garage door openers and it worked everytime.

Did you clear the homelink. I've had problems on my wife's odyssey, cleared the memory and started from scratch.

Thanks, yes I did clear it by pressing the two outside buttons for 20 secs or so until fast blinking. Will chat with the dealer tomorrow. I should be able to bring my opener to them and they can try it for themselves. Once the car is programmed I am sure the garage and car will interact.

You know what I had to do with my 328xi... I had to extend the length of the antenna on the garage opener. Just got 10 feet of speaker wire, connected it to the garage door opener antenna and ran it across the windshield of my new bimmer. Programming complete, problem solved.... until I move again!

Looks like the car acccidently has a European spec compass mirror /Homelink unit which will not work over here. Dealer has new part on order.

How was it determined that it was Euro spec? I'm having trouble syncing my Homelink unlike with my other cars.
